Veg time

I've been reading this site for quite a while now i wanted to ask about veg time.
In different things I have read that you should veg till 8 weeks and the nodes start to alternate, what is the importance of this and the effects if i were to flower before this point?

Never judge going by how many weeks it has vegged.
There are 2 features that distinguish mature vegging plants from immature ones. They are alternating nodal arrangement and leaves with 5 or more blades. You can flower before these features are present, but the plants perform a whole lot better if you wait. Most strains except for equ. sats have these by 12" or so.
Peace

I get that already but that wasnt the question, the question was. What happens if you veg before its mature enough.
I've read the answer you gave me on the site already im just wondering why you have to wait that long and what happens if you dont.

based on MY expierence, 1 foot will give you close to one ounce. if conditions are good. but remember that some strains will tripple in size from the point at which you start flowering. the reason you only get a small amount if you were to flower at less then 4-6 weeks with a plant from seed is the plant will start focusing energy on bud abd seed production and not vegitive growth. this is why people have mothers and clone, the clone is as old as its mother and can be flowered as soon as there are roots.

also a plant 1-4 weeks old is growing more under the soil line (developing a root ball/system) then over (vegitive growth) at 3 weeks the plant should really start to take off.

I'm going to assume that the question was 'What happens if you flower before it's mature enough?'

The answer I beleive you're looking for is as follows -

Sexually mature plants produce more Cannabinoids, particularly the precursor to THC Cannabigerol, than sexually immature plants will. The more Cannabinoids produced the more THC produced and the more potent the finished buds will be.

So by flowering the plant when it's sexually mature enough to flower, will ensure that it produces more Cannabinoids and THC precursors than a sexually immature plant will.

Thankyou for your answer babygro.

So I can flower before but the quality is going to lack, so im better off growing a mother out to sexual maturity and then letting the clones veg for a couple of weeks, then i should have some real potent bud, is this right?>

You can certainly flower before the plant reaches sexual maturity and a lot of people do indeed do exactly that, but in my opinion the plant is not being grown to 'it's fullest genetic potential' when flowered before sexual maturity is reached.

Growing out a mother plant and taking clones from it is a popular way of growing for many people for several reasons -

1) Clones take on the sex of the original plant, so if the mothers female so will the clone be in all probability.
2) The clone takes on the age of the mother plant. So a clone taken from an 8 week old plant automatically becomes 8 weeks old at the time the clone is taken.
3) There's an unlimited supply of clones that can be taken from a mother plant and therefore no need to keep buying seeds.

Because clones take the age of the mother plant, vegging them till sexual maturity is reached is unneccessary and they can be put into flower pretty much as soon as they're rooted. This is a useful technique with plants that grow tall like Sativa and Sativa hybrids because it helps to keep the height of the plant down and is particulary good for use in SOG growing.

Its strength can also be it's weakness though and Indica dominant plants which stay fairly short anyway would probably need a longer vegging time if not being grown SOG style because their height doesn't increase much in flowering and therefore the smaller the plant is when it's put into flowering the smaller the eventual yield would be.
