First time grower here, I'm looking to you...the experts on what is better for veg: MH or T5's? I was going to go with T5's until I recently read that MH's are the best for veg. Is there a distinct difference between the two, or is it just really a matter of preference?

i've used em both and i prefer the t5 over mh any day.less heat and less stretchy plants in the end.mh are ok if you can deal with the heat somehow.gl

Fuck em both. for veg go LED! less heat than a mh or a t5. great penetration. CHEAPER TO RUN. no cfl bulbs... 50k-100k hours of use. plus u get that cool purple look haha. its my understanding that it delivers light spectrum on both ends of the scale!

Thanks for the input. I was thinking of going 4' - 8 bulb. I was thinking of going with the Quantum Badboy......anyone had any experiences with it?

T5's do produce excellent results in veg, however if ventilation/heat isn't a problem for you I would suggest CMH (ceramic metal halide, Philips Mastercolor Retro White to be exact), CMH or even a good quality MH like Hortilux Blue will promote faster growth and tighter node spacing that T5's any day, if you have enough T5's the results will be comparable but MH and especially CMH will promote better, faster growth. CMH produces the closest spectrum to summer sun than any other artificial light and you simply can not beat the sun.

I prefer t5 for veg. It gives me fast growth and tight node spacing. They do give off less heat but are still able to give you problems with heat without proper ventilation.
