"V" Notch stem instead of crushing

Instead of crushing stems, anyone ever cut a "V" Notch into a stem, like if you were cutting down a tree, then laying it over so the cut closes up? I thought of this after crushing some stems last night, so i don't have any to experiment with right now. I'm thinking it would have the same effect, but possibly heal quicker due to the clean cuts.

I don't know if it would be any better than crushing. I think that the outer layer of the stem is where the plant transports nutrients. If you remove part of that outer stem then you'll be limiting the flow of nutrients. If it heals at the cut then that wouldn't be a factor but it could take some time to heal. When I crush sometimes the plant is already growing back up in just a couple hours.
But because I like to try things I'm going to give this a try just because I'm curious. You also have me interested in possibly grafting one strain onto another.

I was thinking you could cut and peel that outer layer back and use it to wrap the cut. Just cut the core out. I know I've broken branches almost of and managed to splint them back on. It would take a sharp scalpel and a steady hand. I've always wanted to try grafting but never have. I have a plant im trying a reveg on, maybe I'll throw a cut onto it, see what happens.

Shows how to graft. It seems like a pretty simple process. Many people would like to have a mother of multiple strains. Think I'll give it a try just for the challenge.

I once contemplated the "notch" idea myself, after I caused a pretty substantial accidental laceration, to a nearby branch, while cutting a clone. I hadn't even noticed the cut, until a few days after I had LST'd that branch downward, I saw a drop of liquid ooze from the wound after a watering....It ended up healing itself surprisingly well, with a neat little knob around it that kept the branch bent downish....
Also, as mentioned above, the grafting technique has me really intrigued for Mothering purposes, in my case where a legal plant count must be maintained. Having multiple strains available for clone, off of one giant, perpetually vegging rootball, with a massive main stem would be incredible. Just a huge rack of old growth stems, kept healthy, and just plug in whatever flavor one would be inclined to keep....

Now we need the Frankenstein weed Grandma's boy, and some blueberry. Then we can graft a Frank and berry.

I like the idea but never tried it but in theory it should work. I dont know if you would need to wrap it at all, as long the cuts line up close and touch they should fuse there and form a knobby growth . It has been said that buds grown on broken or stressed branches tend to be larger and possibly more dense but I have no verification. Im going to try it on my next run and then I can have some proof one way or another.

I run 1 net over a crop to train my plants for a even canopy. I went away for 10 days and my helper let a couple get out of hand.
One was a main branch, about a foot over the net, i was bending n twisting it to get it under the net, it snapped, only about 20% of the outer stock was attached.

I took painters tape(frogtape yellow 1.5")
Wrapped a piece around it like a cast.
It wilted a bit over 48hrs then came right back. I left it alone and never tried again to get it under the net. Week later I removed the tape, there was a scar but its fine.
There was no size differences from other colas

I'd say as long as you are clean & fast , and cover the cut with tape or whatever, you'd be good, but seems like a lot more work,
I prefer less work during the grow, n put that time into hand trimming.
