Hey everyone :) as some of you may i JUST started my first grow op about a week ago. i germinated my seeds they were ready in about 4 days id say then i planted my seeds on day 5. it is not day 7, my seeds just sprouted when i woke up this morning and they seem to be growing almost viciously lol they just sprouted id say no more then 12 hours ago and already they have almost hit the 1 inch mark. is it just me are are these suckers GROWIN!!! woo woo haha sorry im just pretty excited. anyways my set up now is in a trunk that is 1 n 1/2 feet tall by 5 feet long and 3 1/2 feet wide. currenty i have 2 20w grow lights with a 75 watt output each, a 26w CFL and 2 42 watt CFLs all feeding 3 plants. do i need more lights? also i current just have the 26watt light hanging down from the top and the 2 42 watts on each side of the pots and the 2 20 watt lights are screwed into the top. now my question is is there any way to make a homemade reflector/ heat guard? because since my trunk is quite small i will have to move my lights to the top in little grooves that i have cut out. but even still the plants will most likely reach the top even tho im LSTing. would i be able to encase each bulb in a home made acrylic little box to cut back on heat since the plants with be nearly touching the lights. or does any one else have a better idea? i also have a fan in there blowing at the lights and the plants, the temp is around 80 but the 42 watt bulbs feel quite hot to the touch and im worried they would burn my plants any help would be nice thanks everyone :)

well tht doesnt sound like quick growing to me, sounds more like streching if they grew 1 inch in 12 hrs, Streching is a VERY bad thing. Basically the plant is forcing itself to grow a longer stem to reach the light. This results in a tall slanky plant with a brittle stem and widly gapped nodes. I would deff recommend more light. You basically have 100w worth of flouros for 3 plants. Considering how i have around 190w worth of cfl's for 8 plants and mine are not streching and are nice and bushy. I would say add more light, BUT what u have now should be ok for vegging considering you only have 3 plants. Dont worry about the 42w bulb being hot to the touch, thats normal , just be sure to keep the lights appox 2-6 inch from the canopy depending on temps. Use the bottom of your wrist as you would to check milk temp for a baby, if it burns you or feels too hot, move the lights up a bit. Also when referrin g to growth, dont worry about height. Label yor growth based on leave sets and the denseness of the nodes. You want the nodes to grow as close together as possible. in comparison. My babies are 15 days old. 4 to 4 1/2 inch in height with 4 to 5 nodes per plant. Hope i didnt loose you with all that info,
Best of luck

Thanks for all the help man i really appreciate it. ill try moveing my lights closer to see if that helps although i do not think they are stretching. the farthest light from them are the 2 20w and those are only 6 inches away. the other CFL's are about 2-3 inches away. thanks for everything tho man ill move the 20's down to 3 inches to see if the improve. thanks again

give it about 4 more days, see how the stem growth is by then, but if there more than 3 inches tall in the next 4 days, i would say there streching, 1 simple fix to that would be transplanting, when u transplant, burry them up to the bottom set of eaves, that will reinforce the stems greatly, and if u can post a few pics, anymore questions shout em out. im fairly new to growing also but have done hrs and hrs of research. also alot of info i gave you i found in the FAQ section on this site and at Marijuana Growing Guide Free Library check it out, very helfpfull

Im not a fan of burying elongated stems as it can invite rot to the main stem and then your done. ID dump the cfls and get some florescent tube lights.Make sure if you use the cfls you have the right color for the veg stage..
