Two 2x4 trays on shelves using a single pump in res - how to do it?

Hi all,

I'm running into an issue and hope the RIU community can lend a helping hand. I'm trying to construct an Ebb & Flow system using two 2x4' trays, an EcoPlus 633 pump, and a 27 gallon res. The problem I am running into is that my trays are on individual shelves, one tray directly above the other, with the res directly below the bottommost tray.

The issue I am running into is the tray at the top is not getting as much water pressure into the tray as the tray directly above the pump/res.

How can I alleviate this?

Thanks in advance.

why not pump only to the top tray , and have that drain down to the lower tray . Using a smaller diameter hose , have that tray drain back to the reservoir .

You could get really complicated, put the res above the top tray, and have gravity (or your pump) fill the trays and then have it pumped back into the res. Dadio's idea was much better

Like dadio said. Pump into the upper and have an outlet drain hose from the upper tray lead into the lower. Also be sure to have an overflow tube setup at the desired elevation on the upper and lower tubs.

Use the same diameter main drain tube on the upper as the lower.

For this to work, your pump must input water into the first tray faster tha. It drains out. You may need a stronger pump as the head heights stated on the pumps are a maximum. Typically you loose abouth half the gph when your pumping to a height that is half the listed height. Ok? Ok.
