You are correct to check the tricomes, but left out the most important piece of information hereThe trichomes are the best way to determine if your plant is ready to chop. If you can get your hands on a 60x+ or so jewlers loupe or a microscope you can get a better look. If the trichomes are clear (image 1) their probably not ready. I aim for mostly cloudy (image 2) with some amber (image 3).
