transplanting question

Was wondering why gradually transplant from let's say jiffy to 1 gallon then to 3 gallon 5 gallon etc and not going from jiffy directly to 5 gallon? Also is it a good idea to plant a seed into a big pot directly?

Until you can determine sex (unless growing feminzied seeds or clones), why waste the medium and the large pots? You're probably going to lose at least 1/2 the seedlings. Plus you can get many small containers in a smaller space (indoor and outdoor stealth) and bigger pots are harder to move.

If regular seeds, pop seed in jiffy pellet. Wait till its got decent roots, transplant into smaller pot. Let it veg till u can get a cutting, take one and flower it straight away. If female, repot main plant into large permanent pot and away you go, like above poster said no point wasting medium on the chance of males.

plants are like humans, uproot your life, and put it in something completely different and there will be an adjustment phase. every time you uproot a living organism, there is an adjustment period, do it to often, or not the right way, they die :(

I am using only feminized seeds, so the only reason to do multiple transplant is if you don't know sex?

I use feminized seeds too and i do about 2 transplants. I place seed into solo cup then transplant into 1 gal pot then into 3 gal pot. Use superthrive when you transplant to reduce stress.

From what I've heard is, it's easier for the plant to grow and feed because there isn't unused soil in the pot. So you gradually go from 1-3-5-10-20 ect.

Not a pro, just know for sure it isn't good to throw a seedling into a 5 gal pot.

I agree and your final size of pot would depend how long you intend to veg your plant and how long it takes to flower.

The answer is the root system...

You need to start a seedling, in a small Dixie cup or similar….

à
Because you need to water the plant with enough water to water it “Through”

To insure that water gets to the bottom of the pot, where your growing roots will be….

Now, if you have a 4” plant, in a Dixie cup, you can easily pop it out of cup, to check roots!

You want roots to be very good before transplant…

First, your plant grows roots…. Below the medium, growing… then on top…

IF you do it correct, transplanting doesn’t cause harm to your plant, it makes it rocket grow…

Start Dixie cup-it comes out of Dixie cup, when roots go a round your cup, then you unwind roots, and put it… TP into .75 gallon…. When roots are going round and round the .75 then you transplant not before…

First root health, then your plant above medium grows, then you TP…

[Lots of holes in your pot… drill extra… Super Thrive to help root growth…] Good Luck
