I can not say enough good things about tying your plants down. Mother plants too. When tying down the plant your not stressing it out like topping or trimming. (Trimming lower branches is ok)
This needs to be done early enough so that the stalk doesn't get woody. You will be surprised with both yield of limbs and bud.
Make sure the top is lower or at the same hieght as the lowest node. This will send that new growth hormone throughout the whole plant. I would change the point where you tye it off so you dont harm it. Give it two weeks and you wont be sorry.
Top and tie. Bend, snap, pinch... do it all. You want your mother to be the smallest bush you can. You can check out my Calyxxx mum in my sig to see my current bonsai.
I find if u top them you yield more....granted you wont have the one big cola BUT, you will have (like in my case) 12 tops so that means 12 colas..not as big remember .....but =keep on smokin......peace
What if your plant is thin and not strong, thick? Mines starting to bend, how can I stop this from happening and how can I make the stem thicker so it can support the bigger branches, bigger buds....?
