too much noise

i have a 6 inch canfan. way too noisy. im thinking of building a fan box for it, but i dont know how safe that can be. also i need tips on how to build it. please any help is greatly appreciated. i cant spend money on mufflers. this economy is shit. oh yea, does anybody know if the odorsok works well. by putting it on how much fan noise will be reduced? please help thanks

I haven't had to deal with the large inline fans, but as I have read in other threads, once everything gets hooked up, filter,ducts, etc, it tends to muffle the sound some. I have also seen some threads here with pics where people have encased them with wood and hung them from bungee cords. I think even hanging them from bungees alone can help as the vibration is reduced greatly when its suspended in the air.

i think i saw that too, with the box. what im worried about is the fan overheating and causing a fire. if you know of people who have used them succesfully it be great to know. not personally, just their experience. im trying to be on the safe side. thanks for answering.

Yeah, if you mean the little metal fans that are shaped like ducting, I'm not sure if that will do the job. Always best to err on the side of caution.

I'm sure some people with more experience on the matter will help you out with some advice.

what you need is a speed control, i have an inline that used to hum and ducting never worked so i put a speed control on it and turned it down to about 75% and its quiet as hell
