Too much light? Noise?

Would a 1000W light be too much for say a 4x5x10 foot area?
Saying that the area is about 4 to 5 feet from side to side...Also, anyone have any ideas on how to work out the buzzing sound from such a light?

1000w may be a lil overkill for 4-8 plants. 600w would probly be better. if u have the money 2 600w would be less heat and more lumens

if u hang the fan with rubber rings like put a hook on the ceiling of ur grow box then put the rubber rings then hang the fan it will stop it from vibrating

i say a 600 would be fine with a 600 in that room you would prolly be pushin 5000 lumens per sq ft, 5-7000 psf is ideal more and its a waste of electricity and less, well the lighting section on here says 3000 minimum but i say more close to 5000 minimum

As well as the issue of power consumption, there is cooling to consider. Even with an air cooled reflector, a 1000 watt lamp in a room that small may be difficult to cool. The increased temps could cause the extra light to do more harm than good. That's another reason to go with a digital ballast and keep it outside the grow room.

6x6 is what is recommended for a 1000w HID. That's what I've read any ways.
if your room is 6x6=36 sqft, a 1000 watt bulb will only give you 27.78 watts per square foot. that is actually low.. 2 600 watt would serve you better but even be on the low end.. actually most indicas require about 45 watts per square foot. 6x6=36 sqft. 36sqft x 45 watts = 1620 watts for ideal light. sativas require about 65 watts per square foot which would mean for a 6x6 room you would need about 2340 watts of light. the wattage info i have i got from the 'ask ed' section of cannabis culture magazine.
i wanted to add as well, if you can't keep the room cool, you are better off with less light because once the hit breaks 85 degrees, growth is stunted and buds get lanky and airy..

might wanna consider the light output in stead of how many watts they use its the lummens that tell you howw much light they produce not how much power they use. chk it 4x5=20square ft. (600 watt)=95,000 lummens/20sq.ft.=4750 per sq ft.
1000watt=150000/20sq.ft.=7500 per sq ft
so really now that ive sat and done the math it looks like idealy a 1000 watter would be great and a 600 will work too

i think ur lumen output for 1000w and 600w may be a lil high. but then again, i may be a lil high too

Well for the noise issue, u can put the ballast in something. Mine is in an old metal ammo box and that works really well. also it would help to have some other ambient noises like a fan powered air purifier, not like the ionic breezes cuz they're quiet.

the noise really isnt an issue once i plugged it in.. It's nothing really.. play some music for the babies and it's money!
