Too much carbon?

Im making a diy carbon filter and what i would like to know is can you use too much carbon?Im wrapping carbon sheets around aluminum wire mesh,can i still fill the inside up with activated carbon?Or is the carbon sheet good enough?Thanks

Yes, you can use too much depending on the cfm of your fan.

I've never heard of carbon sheets before...where did you get these and what are they intended for? I'm thinking of carbon copy paper, like the old credit card receipts?....

Before you build your filter, you should find out the dimensions of a commercially made filter. Then build yours to the same surface area and bed depth to ensure proper performance.

at menards,removes pet oders,tabacco,cooking......120cfm,i was gonna wrap the carbon sheet around aluminum screen 4"end cap on one end,4" duct connector piece connected to wall with fan blowing in.Do you think if i filled it up with carbon it would be too much?The whole filter should only be 8 to 10"

thats exactly what im doing!So what do you think,just carbon sheet,or carbon sheet and activated carbon?

My CF has one of those carbon pads wrapped around the inner mesh wire and outer, as well as about 5 pounds of activated carbon between them. It worked fine for 9 months for me and I just redid it, works great. Just make sure to use the prefilter that catches all the big dust and shit, that will allow it to last longer.
