Too long veg (again)

I had my plants in veg for too long. Now they grow too tall. Not a full week into flowering and they already touch the HPS bulb. Needless to say, this isn't good.
What can I do to ease the situation? If I try to bend them more horizontally, I only damage the stem.

Move the lights up or the plants down if you can. I don't see too many other options if you can't bend them. Tie the branches down to the plant as much as you can! You can clone some of the branches and start them back in veg, keeping them smaller this time. Good luck!

Lay your plants down, or on an angle.
I use "Bush Master" in Flower it stops plant elongation. (Stretch)

Good Luck on Your Grow.

Here's how to keep it from happening a third time...

Measure your grow space. That's the space from the top of your pot/bucket to the bottom of your light at it's highest point. Subtract 12 inches (or 8 if your light is air-cooled). What's left the actual height your plant can grow to before potentially running into problems of being too tall for your space.

Now divide that actual height by 3. This is about as high as you can let a plant grow from the top of the pot before flipping, since most plants double or triple in height during flowering. If you know you have an indica that only doubles, then you can divide actual height by 2.

When choosing a strain to grow I always ask in the forum for the stretch from people who have grown the strain before. There are different phenotypes, so even this isn't 100%, but it gives me an idea whether to divide actual height by 2 or 3.

Good luck!

I tend to over veg every now and then. I have one right now that is 4 inches taller than my room and 5 inches above my lights. I just bent it about a foot down from the top and it is doing fine. These plant's are rather hardy and can survive more than you would think!

I have the same problem with Holy Grail Kush as it stretched a lot more than I was anticipating. I ended up kinking the tallest stems at 90 degrees, the plant will form a knuckle at the kink and be fine. It doesn't break the stems if you are careful and after 24 hours the tops had started to turn upwards towards the light. The buds will be just as large.
You will need to use stakes to support the tops when they get heavier.

Zip ties and wire
"I love my removable 6" zip ties."
yep they have an unlock button so I use them if I am to ruff doing my LST.
I just pull it the zip tie tight at the break, it hold together great and is easily removed.
Not near as messy as tape.
I like to put a Zip tie thru a pair of branches and pull with cut coat Hanger pcs.
When doing my LST, they don't slip like a wire against the plant so you can pull from the right spot.

Grow SCROG. That way u determine the height before hand and flip when the screen gets full.

Dude... I determine height on every plant I grow whether it is scrog or not. I screwed up and let the wrong strain veg to long and ended up with a monster. LOL!!

When I bent the stem it split pretty bad in my opinion. It's something that happens when I train because of my tremors. I did not tape it and it has not slowed the plant at all. I put a support wire under it for support and the next day it was 1/2 inch above the wire holding it's own weight. Today is day 42 of flower and it is still 1/4 inch above the support wire.

Dog...

Great idea with the reusable zip ties!! I use the foam covered wire sold in the garden section at most stores.
