I dont trim any fan leaves unless they are blocking light hitting a bud site. The plant will suck excess nitrogen out of the fan leaves when you are in bloom and not using any, the leaves will get yellow and fall off on their own. Just pull the bad looking leaves if they come off with ease its all good.

the buds dont need light. photosynthesis takes place in the leaves. since the leaves are the plants energy production site, why would you want to remove any unless you want to slow growth?
