to prune or not to prune

outdoor plants: some say prune all leaves over 4 inches others say don't prune at all.
could someone tell me what the tried and true method is?

I wouldnt. I would prune leave that dont look healthy or are blocking light. You want to put the less amount of stress on the plant so you dont inhibit growth. My .02$ at least...

leaves are like solar panels, any pruning will decrease photosynthesis hence decrease total yield

i never pruned ony the leaves that are dead and yellow so it can grow like it should lol
