Tips or just talking about aeroponic foggers

I saw a video on youtube of a guy growing tomatoes using an Ultrasonic Fogger. I guess its kinda like the ones used in fog machines, but its just the base part.

I dont quite yet have the funds to recreate one, but i plan on it as soon as i can. You can get all the stuff from a hardware shop, but the Ultrasonic Fogger you have to get on ebay.

Here is the video of the guy i got the idea off of. (Url http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=brvJ2fGXusU )

If anyone wants to idea swap or give me some pointers that would be great.

Hi. I saw that same video, and said to myself "self, you can do better than that."

If you look up the retail versions of the foggers, they go for around $400. You can also buy a fogger and table system with 16 sites for around $700. A bit pricey, eh?

So here's what I did- I researched the hell out of foggers and decided that I would buy a 3 head nutramist fogger head from futuregarden.com. I paid about $100 with shipping.

I built a fogger that works kick ass. So kick ass, as a matter of fact, that I found that 3 heads is overkill. I am going to build another fogger with a single head that I'm buying from a place called mainlandmart http://www.mainlandmart.com/foggers.html

now, you can buy a single head fogger on ebay if you want, but be sure to get one with a teflon head.

Also, that guy in the video doesn't know shit about how a fogger system actually works- sure- he made a little thingy that makes a little fog and sort of spreads it out a bit... but with my fogger, I got ungodly amazing roots, and it works about 100 times better than his.

If you're interested, I'd be happy to post all the instructions and some pics too.

yeah i was planning to make one in a 3x3 box with a 400 or 600 watt hps.
I was only gonna make it so i could grow about 10 plants every approximately 70-80 days. But yeah ill take all the info i can get

Thanks

After about 10 prototypes, I got my setup pretty well dialed in.

Here's a few tips:
1. fog alone isn't enough. it helps tremendously, but at some point the fog just won't be able to penetrate the massive root system you're going to develop. As a result, do an ebb and fog system- nutramist actually has info on how to set this up on their site.

2. this is not something you can build for "free". You are simply going to have to spend a few bucks, or you are wasting your time.

3. you can't just put a fogger in a tote with some water and expect results, nor can you do like the guy in the video and actually expect any real results. The idiots with the foggers in the totes are just killing their plants, and the guy with the video is maybe giving his plants a teeny, teeenny tiny boost.

4. I use a separate container for my fogger because the nutes for the fogger go half strength, and also because if you put humic acid or any tea type fert in, the fogger will be unable to nebulize the water- too much heavy stuff floating around. Also, the water in the fogger gets pretty warm.

On the plus side, the fogger sterilizes the nutrient solution, so your container does not have to be light proof.

So here's my setup:

Fogger:
Fogger head
1 liter plastic paint mixing cup from home depot
5 Gallon Bucket
5 Gallon bucket Lid (the kind you can remove and put back on easily- not the kind that locks on)
10 feet of 4" dryer hose
2 peices of foam board
zip ties
1 1/4 electrical MA and FA
small fan from radio shack
multi voltage power supply for fan
2 dryer vert wall plates
15 minute increment timer

Cut the two foam pieces in a circle that will fit all the way down in the bucket.

cut out a center hole in both foam peices that the cup fits through.

cut the cup off at about 2 inches tall

drill holes in the cup in the bottom to let in liquid and 4 on the sides to attach it to the hose.

figure out what depth the cup needs to hang at so that the sensor on the fogger is under water- if it is too high, the sensor will turn the fogger off, and if it is too low the fogger will not put out its best fog.

cut three holes in the lid- one in the center for the dryer duct fitting, and two for the fan and fill/test hole (1 1/4 inch)

cut about 14 inches of vent. attach one end to the cup, the other end to the fitting.

mount the ma and fa to the lid
tape the fan to the MA

cut duct to go to the table.

put it all together

FOG LIKE A PRO!

pics- 1 is setup 2 is roots at 2 weeks, 3 is roots at 4 weeks- yah, that is 2 weeks of root growth. same plant.

If you're really interested, I'd be happy to send more pics and more detailed instructions.

Shit I cant see your pictures. It seems really easy but it would be great to have some pics to reference to. I saw some flotation devices, so would you need to do the first couple steps?

Oh yeah what does Ma and Fa mean, i have never done hydro or aeroponics though. But I learn fast and i have been growing for 3 years indoor/outdoor.

But any pics of the box and the way you have it set up would be much appreciated.

Apologies for being the newb, but can i create a fog only system to bypass the misters, or is that a death wish?
