Thrips Everywhere!!! 1 Week Into Flowering Already...

Well I'm just going to make it nice and quick.

I found out more thrips has been roaming around my girls and they are infesting them. I recently bought Neem oil (off ebay and should be here in acouple days) I plan on spraying the crap out of them with Neem oil, drentching them to the max. I also put some yellow stick traps (the small ones you plug into the dirt) and maybe I should get the hanging ones too to place in there since those buggers are starting to develope wings. These are the only precautions I have taken toward the girls because I dont want to posion them. Is there anything else someone could recommend at this stage of the process? If someone could chime in that would be greatly appreciated!

put a couple drops of dish soap in with the neem oil when you spray it

Theres only one problems with that, I cant find them at any local store.

I also heard romours that they are bad for your health.

Well I checked on them this morning before they went to bed from last nights feeding. At this point I am lost. It looks like it has yellowed quite a bit on the bottom of her. I am not sure of what to do as of right now. Can someone please tell me whats going on?

This is a zinc and mag deficiancy.

How is your PH? that wuold be one reason for these issues.

Also, if there is build up of other nutirents in your medium then those elements that are built up can cause lock outs of other elements that need to be available.

You can trim off the dead leaves they won't recover, the discolored ones may get some green back once ph is balanced and the plants can uptake again. If you are in soil ph should be 6.5 for hydro 5.8, 5.9 is ok.

Can you show us close up pics of affected leaves from thripe damage? The reason I ask for this is beacuse you really don't want to start treating your plants for things that they don't have. These plants really react better to less fuss than more fuss.

thrips creep me the F out man, there so gross, and clear and small. neem oil gets rid of them? my friends plant about a year back was infested with them, we used some organic pesticide (which now that i think of it was probably just neem oil soap and water in a plastic bottle) to get rid of them. even after, i was out there every other day checking ALL of the leafs for more thrips with a magnifying glass, if i found 1 i would spray the leaf with pesticide and spray some around the root system for good measure. when it came to harvest i was digging through each bud looking for bugs before we smoked, ill admit i was paranoid but those fuckin thrips are resiliant

Sigh I been dealing with these guys for about three weeks now. I've order Neem oil and still wating on it. I cant wait to drentch them to make die so they wont hurt my girls anymore.

you could also try going out and finding a couple ladybugs. They would probably help your situation. also you could get a praying mantis, they would definately kill the little pests

Well you do have pests, just not sure what. Thripes leave bored out trails on leaves. Have you checked the under side of the leaves for eggs? Neem oil w/ a drop of dish soap will do the trick. Most garden centers sell a bag of lady bugs for about 5 bucks. Overall though your plants are looking good, it doesn't look like the pests have gone that crazy with your girls, which you've mitigated the damages with the pest strips.

Once you see thrips... hit them hard, and hit them fast. because they are laying eggs FAST.

never treat a pest situation lightly.

you can get neem oil from any hardware store, walmart has it as well.

Also, neem oil doesnt kill the eggs, so, expect to spray again in 3-5 days when the eggs hatch.

I almost never see thrips on the topside of the leaves... so that to me is a bad sign, I can see the damage "thrip trails" and then I check the underside and there they are, hard to see, but running around like little teeny tiny pieces of skinny rice. and then BAM! neem those fuckers.

I also use pyrethium foggers.

Recently I've found out that the insect pests thrive at higher temps, so I'm installing an AC to bring temps to a cooler optimal temperature for the plants.

I just came from outside, collecting ladybugs instead of buying them. I think I got about 20 ladybugs, I just hope that enough for 15 girls.


Should I grab more because I'm still waiting on this Neem oil and does it kill ladybugs?

Question: how come the ladybugs are all on the walls and top of my tent? None of them are on the girl at all?

couple things...

first if you are using neem oil make sure, and this is important, that it is 100% pure cold pressed neem oil.. there are a ton of things that contain neem... and you can even get neem.. but there is a difference between neem and neem oil..

if you plan on adding the soap to the neem spray make sure you use biodegradeable non scented dishsoap... anything else can have a negative affect on your plant... and all the soap does is help to immulsify the neem oil/water mixture.. it doesnt actually help kill anything..

neem oil WILL kill eggs as long as the eggs are sufficiently covered... well.. here is how neem oil works first... this will help

neem oil is not a spot treatment.. it doesnt kill on contact.. it works in a few ways.. with adult pests it, once its injested, it fucks with their hormones so they are unable to reproduce anymore.. with young larva it messes with their hormones so they never reach maturity, therefore they are never able to reproduce.. if it coats the eggs of the pests it will suffocate the eggs...

it also tastes terrible.. pests will migrate to other areas because they do not like the taste.. they will look for new, fresh foliage that has not been sprayed.. so make sure to coat well...

you can also root feed neem oil.. this works well because no matter where the pests feed they have to eat the neem oil.. and it also contains micro/trace nutes that your plant can use...

expect about a 2 week battle when using neem.. the first week should drop the population by half or better.. then its just clean up..

lastly you can use neem as a preventative and spray your plants weekly to avoid pests from the beginning...


now for the easiest way to get rid of soil bound pests.. this is for any pest that lays eggs in your soil and leaves the soil once hatched..

get some sterile sand from the store.. sand is cheap and you get a lot.. just make sure its sterile... add about 3/4" to 1" of sand to the top of your soil... so you have a nice barrier of sand.. this will keep the pests soil bound and they will eventually die off... if you can use the neem treatment and sand treatment together you should have your problem cleared up in no time...


hot shot no pest strips are dangerous to pets and humans if breathed in over a period of time... you shouldnt be around them too long without PLENTY of ventilation, and even then i wouldnt recommend it.... if you do plan on using one tho make sure you do it during a time where you can turn off all your fans and exhaust so it will work.. otherwise its a waste because the chemical "fog" it releases will just be sucked out of the room before it has a chance to work...

oh.. final thought.. you can use neem oil as a root feed all the way up to your final flush.. i wouldnt, however, use it as a spray much past week 5 of flowering.. and only do so then if you have good air circulation and ventilation.. if you dont it could lead to bud rot, mold, mildew, ect...
