Thoughts and questions about brand name seeds.

We all know that you can grow some great stuff from bagseed. The mystery and gamble of what you are getting are both the pros and cons. This discussion is more about brand name seeds.
We see the same strains offered by different companies. Chronic, Northern Lights, AK 47, ect...they normally have different prices. You also see seeds with different seed counts and different prices.

My thoughts are this: You are probably are getting what you pay for.

Some seeds packs are 18 for $50 whereas others are 10 for $80.
I see a pack of seeds that has more than 10 for $50 and i think, they give you this many seeds because the gentics are not that stable and you could end up with 4 different looking white widows that grow, look, mature, and smoke differently.

I also question how a particular company feminizes their seeds. There are basically 3 ways to do it. One is to take a female plant that is flowering, hit it with a sex reversing hormone and collect the pollen to pollenate a plant to create female seeds. That is the best way, from what i understand.

Another way is to stress a female plant into herming and using that pollen to create female seeds. This way could cause the offspring to be more prone to herming.
The final way, which is not a gaurentee, is to let the female plant bud way too long in the hopes that it pops out a male flower to pollenate itself or others. These kind of flower do not produce a lot of viable pollen.
Im guessing that the cheaper the fem seeds, the more of a risk of hermies you run.

Just like the cheaper the regular seedss, the less likely the genetics are stable.
What say you all?

I have tried many different things.

I like to get my seeds from the attitude seed bank, they are very very good with shipping. Now finding your way through this site can be tough. I like to stick to to Green House Seeds, Nirvana, Barneys Farm, DNA, Advanced Seeds, G-13 labs. And even KC Brains (Ordered a 20 pack of their "Northern Lights Special" 15 germed, 12 poped and sprouted) I was very surprised with the germ rate on such a cheap seed pack. Little did I know that that northern lights is the most true "Knock you on your ass" northern lights like I am used to")

Anyways.... I have ordered seed from all of those places thru attitude seed bank, never having any problems with shipping. I have also grown bag seed with much success. (With bagseed) I find that the better the plant grow thru the veg stage the better the bud is at the end, there can be some fire genetics in "MIDS" or "Brick"...... You never really know just take your chances. If you have confidence in your growing ablilty go for it and see what you can do.

I personally had a batch of bagseed that I planted last time around, which had a plant that was very very similar to the barneys farm blue cheese. (I almost thought I got the seeds mixed up) and another plant that was a super strong fruity pebble smell sativa. If your game for smoking different types this is the way to go, to save money and potentially hit the money on sum good genetics.

However if there is one strain that you really love, or cant live without in your stash, grab a few seeds with good genetics from the attitude and see what you can do.

I personally have some OG Kush x Blue Cheese (Blue Egyptian i am calling it) (OG Kush was from Reserva Privada) (Blue cheese from barneys farm of course) I crossed this strain myself. Just because I am into that.

Now getting into producing feminized seeds. I found that the most productive was is making the plant switch their sex, using sex reverse hormone. This will make your female plant start producing pollen, that is female dominant pollen.

I have also let plants flower for 3 weeks longer that I should, I have gotten "Male Bananas" I have used that pollen before, with only about a 50% on mature seeds. I dont know what it is but doing it this way, will only make your next crop produce a few viable seeds, with many white small under developed seeds.

I would say it is all personal preference, money issues, space issues. All have to be determined before selecting the right seed.

Right now I have 2(Female Blue Egyptian mothers) I have bread these out for about 7 generations I finally have a stable strain, that has huge and I mean "HUGE" fat fan leaves. I would say my greatest accomplishment as of today.

I also have 2(Female mothers of Northern Lights x Sweet Tooth) my buddy crossed this one, he lives on the other side of the country but I loved his strain so I had to have it.

I have taken many clones off of each, just waiting for the right time to flower. Maybe on the first.
