This is dead right?

The seed shell is stuck,a day or so it might come off.I use toothpicks and a drop of water when this happens.

eh.... from what I've found if the seed doesn't have enough vigor to pops it own shell off then I just let it go. If it is a genetic you really want then a pair of tweezers wiped with rubbing alcohol is the easiest method I've found to gently remove the shell and pull the membrane off. You don't even need to remove it, sometimes just cutting it will release it enough but you have to be very delicate.

I like the dome method for rapid rooters and just misting them to keep wet, that way the seed shell stay moist and pliable and falls off naturally.

It happens because the seed was not deep enough, this does not make the plant useless.Domes are for clones.

The shell must be "moist" enough sometimes. I've dropped a small drop of water on the shell and had success. If in a day or so I usually gently pull the shell apart. I've been successful and not. It may help if the seed was deeper to soften it like nmibud sez. I started scuffing seeds. I have some crosses I've made that were having a tough time shedding the seed casing for the first time "within a month" of harvesting the seeds. After a few months that problem went away. Some breeders in here would know more about this than I. But I take a fingernail file and scuff them all now. I need to build a scuff box. But I only run a couple cycles a year. Personal.
