hey fellas, ive recently purchased a new electronic 1000watt dimmable ballast. i have installed it into my hydrofarm super nova air cooled reflector attached to a fairly new 265cfm (hydrofarm) via a 4" duct then to my bedroom window. results are poor at best. now i know i was warned about how much heat these bitches put off, but shit.. and the sommer months arent even here yet. im looking at about 15' both ways on the length of duct. as yull see theres room for some reducing in length, but id rather not if it wont make much of a difference? it took me 4 reg tarps and a comforter that as u can see i ripped to allow the air conditioner to blowthrough. oh and a large roll of the famous duct tape to stop the light from entering for switch to 12/12. but as of last night i switched back to 24/24 after 3 nights of 1212. to keep it short the light doesnt seem to keep the plants from being shaded , other than maybe the 1st 6"s or so. to say the least im dissapointed. ive always been told 1000watters were the best for penetration, no? ive never had a problem with my 4 or 600 watters when it comes to shading. what i mean by shading is anything other than the s1st 6"s or so seem week, streching, hollow, light green, lack of light basically. anyways sorry for choice of words, but main q is should i shorten the duck? well that give me more flow through the duck so heat well drop? its at 85-90f. any 1 have a foot candle meter and can measure there light intensity at about a foot from bulb? i just wanna make sure its putting out what it supposed to. mines says 180.0 x100= 180,000 candles? at 10" from lens about 2 "from bulb to lens = 1' is this normal? also im new with the picture tags hopefully they show.i know this is candles not lumens but ......
