Tempurature question.

I live in Northern Ontario, where it remains quite cold in the mornings ( below 30F at night and early morning and between 50-90F in April and May in the afternoon). Will the plants survive the cold nights? I plan to grow some Lowryder #2 outside but am unsure when to plant them to ensure the best chance of survival for the plants.

hey man....grew up in the neck of them there woods. The lower temps will certainly influence the speed of growth so the plants may take a little longer and may not achieve their true genetic potential. But saying that, they will probably do very well (though I do expect a 30F temp could not be tolerated for any extended period of time). My grow basically had the temps as low as 50F consistently and they did quite well. good luck man!

Not to sure, but you can always try this idea...

Ok, low ryder is commonly grown on a 12/12 light schedule all the way threw. I would Plant them in pots and set them outside before work/school. Later that night bring them in and make sure they are covered. That way you get your 12/12 and your heat.

Hope this helps....?

ganja man,
why only let them get 12 hours? i agree with the move in/out idea, but lowryders actually grow the most in 24/0 because they are an autoflower strain and will flower no matter the light schedule. please dont tell people that lowryders do best in 12/12 because it simply is not true.

He said that lowryder is commonly grown in 12/12, not best in 12/12:roll:

As for the original question, yes your plants will survive as long as there aren't exposed to the cold for extended periods of time. Their growth will probably be stunted though.

If you're growing in such a cool climate, be alert for mold on your buds later in the year - especially if your area tends to get a lot of rainy weather late in the summer. Might want to look at some mold-resistant strains.

Actually we don't get too much rain, just cold mornings and sweltering afternoons in May especially. So if it's not too wet mold shouldn't be a big problem but I'll keep a look out anyway. From what I gather lowryder #2 is pretty resilient, but I still want to get the best yield I can from it that way I won't have to buy bag weed for a long time.

I've noticed that plants that grow outside in cooler weather seem to be stronger & more hearty in the long run. May take a little longer but it works well I've grown mine in quebec and they've been outside as early as late march to late november

I kinda figured that, I mean it is a weed. It'll grow anywhere, but because these are auto flowering at about 3 weeks I want to make sure the roots develop well, so they can take up all the energy they need when they start to flower and give me as much bud as possible (some people on a few other forums I check report as much as 45g per plant). Since it's my first grow, should I go organic and get a soil that has all the nutrients they'll need already in it (takes most of the brain work out)? I'm hesitant to feed seedlings, but the organic soil seems like a good compromise (especially since its 60 days from start to finish).
