Temperature control in my closet grow ><

Out here in California its about 102 degrees outside right now. Downstairs with the airconditioner going its a good 81 degrees. Upstairs in my room, in the closet, it's 94 degrees.

This completely rapes my plant. Completely.

I had a heating mat on the floor with some seed's, but i turned the heating mat off just to see if it would help in controlling temperature. It didnt.

I have one plant in my closet. It's barely even a plant though, probably half an inch above the soil. Two fans in my closet, one blowing out the closet door and another blowing on the 3 cfl's I got. I was going to buy a looot more, but it seems useless now as 3 is frying my room.

How do I keep it at 80 degrees in my room??? I cant open the door as this is a stealth grow, I put in a big bowl of ice and it melted right away, not helping at all. How do I keep it cool?!?????

You need ventilation first of all, in my closet grow right now i actually have an attic opening there, so i just ran ducting out from my light with the stanley blower on the end, sittin in the attic sucking all the air out of the room and putting it in the attic. My room stays at 80 degrees even with the door closed and the light on, which is a 600 watt hps, considerably hotter than your cfls.

I've been looking into getting a portable AC unit, you should look into them, they start at about 100 bucks and go up from there, in a confined space like your closet with little to no ventilation you would be set with one of those, my only concern is I need to put ducting on the other side of my light and intake the air from outside the closet, which means the attic, and being 110 where i live, doesnt seem like a good plan til it cools down a bit.

Well can you pull air from a cooler spot in your house? Or from an ac vent? Do you run your lights at night? There are other things you can do but for a 3 cfl room it wouldn't be cost effective.

I'm stuck to my closet and the immediate area outside it. Cant get no attic room for me =[
I was looking at 5200btu air conditioners, and they have em as cheap as 75 bucks, i'll go invest into one of those I suppose. Then just have a fan blowing it out from the top
This is my first attempt at growing though, I'm definitely gonna keep improving my closet. If I can revive my plant as soon as I get the air conditioner, I'll look into a 600watt hps and maybe 6 more plants in there

In the meantime, I've been growing 3 tomato plants as well, it turns out I'm much better with tomatoes than I am with the good herb

There is an AC vent just outside the closet. I've been considering turning the lights off from about 10-5 every day as those are the hottest hours, it should be a little cooler at night, but it's still much too hot
And I dont plan on keeping it 3 cfl's. I was going to put in a good 15 more as soon as this plant got a little bigger, but I', not so sure it can make it anymore

well if you can figure out a way to move your ac vent into your room that would help a lot and if you get a good exhaust fan it should pull up more cool air from the vent.

You think I could get the exhaust fan to just exhaust the air out into my room? Or would it be pointless floating around in my room? And get tubing so the ac vent goes directly into the grow area in the closet?
Or would it be a better idea to just get a small air conditioner in my closet and have an exhaust fan as well?

And thanks for the help by the way =]

try getting ducting for the ac vent with a good exhaust fan first and if that doesn't work then go with the air conditioner. I grow in my attic and have an ac vent in my room and good exhaust and its stays below 80 degrees with a 1000 watt light in there and the rest of the attic will be over 100 degrees so it should work well if set up correctly. My room is also insulated good to keep the heat from the rest of the attic from getting in.I think the key is to have a vacuum like effect so your pulling in you air from the ac vent it should pull in air from the ac vent even when the ac isn't on so it will still be pulling cooler air in.

Yea, I am in Cali too and its just going to get hotter in the next couple months.
Sorry to say this but your petty much fucked. Upstairs closet with no outside venting is tough man. If you put an ac in your room to cool the closet it will raze the temps in your room by at least 10 degrees. some will transfer into the closet.

If you can mount the ac in the window and somehow channel the cool air into the closet. well, that would be he way to go. No need to exhaust because what leaks out will be cooler.

Either that or wait till fall.

A bowl of ice? LOL thats a long shot. You need to keep that door open for ventilation. If I close the door to the room I grow in, add 10 degrees at least. If its 81 in your house, still too hot. I have my ac set to 75 and leave the door open, I run 12/12 only at night when its cooler outside, my temps are anywhere between 77-84, never warmer. Like said above, if you can't vent, try again in fall isn't a bad idea.

Hey i just signed up and i am still in the process of building my first grow room but in anticipation of your problem i researched 1000btu portable ac's they need no drain or exaust ducting and shuld be more then ample to cool you colset if all your running is a few cfls. The only thing is they are a little on the expensive side i think they were in the 180-200 range... oh yea and they have a really small foot print great for small spaces and such hope all this helps good luck.
