has anyone figured out how to take pics under an hid on a magnetic ballast without getting those annoying lines?

yeah, take your pic's when the HID turns off

Some fancy cameras have no problems compensating for the hps lighting and can color correct at the same time. But simply using flash when lights are off is easy.

Use the flash.

If you go into the color balance features if available, they usually do have presets to compensate for various lighting.
