Why on earth would you? You just traumatized the plant and it will need the leaves for repair. They aren't blocking light...they are soaking it up for photosynthesis...basically asking do you defoliate mothers after taking clones?
If this is a vegging plant then no I would not remove umbrella fan leaves. Like @JohnDee said those are the engines driving growth at this point. If you were in flower and covering a node I would say do it, but it doesn't sound like you are yet...fans on mother.
there are a bunch of short branches with a lot of nodes each but close to stem
