Im about to set up a new grow room and i was wondering about T8 lightning for the veg stage. You guys have any experience with T8 for veg let me know.
Im thinking about using 3 fixtures with 2 x 2ft bulbs in each and the bulbs are 18w 6500k 1350lm so thats adds up to 108w and 8100lm, Will that be good for about 6-8 plants if i keep the light a few inches away?

a t8 bulb should have a higher wattage rating. they usually come with ~30 watts.

the t5 bulbs are smaller and have a lower wattage. they put out on average 2000 lumens.

i would do a couple plants under four 30 watt t8s.

we want 50+ watts per plant

could get your 125 watts with one or two of these: http://www.amazon.com/Hydrofarm-FLCDG125D-125-Watt-Compact-Fluorescent/dp/B001UV6P9I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1360259064&sr=8-1&keywords=hydro+farm+125+watt

they do cover less area than a linear fluor though

I suggest going with 4 bulb t5 HO units. More efficient to run than T8s with more lumens, Lots of brand choices available depending on how much you can afford, and lots of choice in bulb spectra, thanks to the aquarium industry. T5 HOs has become the industry standard for linear fluorescents.

I'd always used MH for veg but I am really stoked on my T5's! You can get them fairly cheap, they set up easy, and the ladies seem to love 'em.

i have some t5 sunblasters and i like them, except the bulb comes lose and turns off with even a little bump
