T5 lightwave unit distance???

God some growers are going to hate my inquisitive mind but i have another problem.

The specs for one high output T5 dictates high light at 12" and medium light at 16". So with one T5 a seedling should fare well at a distance of 12 to 14 inches from bulb to plant top.

I run a lightwave unit with 4 T5's spaced close together and seedlings seem to run best at 20" and bigger plants at 12" with little to no stretch.

My question is how the hec are growers getting there small plants to within a couple of inches from the bulb?

It dosent make sense that im doing well at 20" and others are at 4" from the plant tops....confused.com

You want that full pentration of light to your plant to get the best result. When the plants hit a foot in heigth youll see a big difference being a foot away Rather than 4-6 inches. Short Internode spacing is what most are working for.

Ive run every height from 4" to 30" and the futher away the better the plant looks.

I was running at 20" from seedlings and few inches less for slightly older plants to the bulbs in distance but still a touch off. Today ive run at 30" and seen much better growth. Ive kept temps at exactly the same at each height although the closer to the lights the stronger the fan had to be to compensate.

I would prefer to be at 4-6" but all my plants bum out in this zone. I was just curious if im missing somthing here as even bigger plants dont seem to want to get any closer than 12".

My light is now ballancing on 40 cd cases to get adequate distance and im thinking great for my plants but easily toppled over and broken which i dont want as not cheap to buy replacement lightwave.

My t8's i could get closer but i gave them to another grower on loan and feel an idiot having to cut his veg tent short.
