Hey what's up guy's I recently bought the T-5 HO CFL 48(40,000 Lumens) Okay I need all the tip's I can get Im a newbie to this with the cost of my meds and cost of my kemo I dont have money to buy shit from the clubs so I wanted to grow myself so I put a add out in craigslist.com and I ended up with the T-5 HO 48 and dude told me it was like the best new way to grow indoor's I agree its probably less expensive but after talkin to other people they said its really not worth the $269.00 and the 8 free 54watt light rod's.
I have also heard it's really good for when the plant's are in the veg state but my question is when I decided to go on a 12/12 and start to make it bud should I go buy a T5 54W HO Lamp Red 3000° K 4ft. and T5 54W HO Lamp Blue 6500° K 4ft and swap out two other lights and put those in??? or did I just get ripped off they said on the site those two light's are purposly used for blooming do you guys think it will work??? btw I have a small closet set up with only 2 plants right now please get back to me It would realy really really help me!! :joint::hump:

Hey.

I have the [FONT=Tahoma, Verdana] New Wave T5-28 (2-foot, 8-lamp). It works great. Yours is twice the size so it should work better. Make sure to Mylar every square inch of your space. Include the ceilings and floor.

Don't let your plant grow into the light. It's too hot.

Over all the T5-28 is warmer than a 150W HPS. That is, with the 150W HP my area temp. would reach into upper 80's. With the T5-28, temps are into mid 90's.

Make sure you have air circulation/exchange in your grow space - heat.

I bought the extra set of bulbs and changed them from 6.5K to 3.0K when going into 12/12. Worked great. Bigger yield than with the 150W HPS. But then, 50 more watts.

I think HPS HID would have been a better choice.

No noise.

Overall, I think you made a good choice. Be sure to get the extra set of bulbs.

Good luck.

I have the 4 foot 8 bulb T5 in my room and think that it works great, when you get to the flowering stage if cash is tight, replace 1/2 of the bulbs with the warm light (red) bulbs, and leave the blue in... have a friend who veg'd under the T5 and flowered after replacing 1/2 and said his yield was off by about 10% compared to switching to a HPS for flowering, but utility bills were cheaper and he had less of an issue with heat...when he switched to all red his yield was off by more than 30%...we are both using the SOG method so the light placement is real close to the plants...take a look at these after 22 days of veg with the T5......

Use half blure and half red throuout the entire grow. The plants will respond better to the dual sectrums. Check out mt 3 ladies under 6 3 foot HO t5s and one 150hps, dual spectrums, These ladies are at day 2 of flower and 15-20 inches tall

Kali,

"blue n red bulbs"

Yes, that's why you made a good choice ;)

I used 100% blue to grow and 100% red to bloom. I bought the extra set.

Like I said, I did 100%/100%.

On the next grow, I'd go red/blue/red/blue throughout the fixture til the end. Unless of course I decided to change up! LOL

You've got a lot of lumens. Relax. Just grow. : ) You'll be pleased.

Which strain are you doing?

agree with rmax...every other one with the red/blue...and Mattso those three plants looked super bushy, thinking about using the red blue combo throughout my whole grow next time....

Yep alternate red/blue. and place all the CFLS around the plants as side lighting when needed, at about a foot tall or so. You wont need the cfls till flowering when the plants are tall, you have a tone of light there! good luck first time is tricky no matter how much you read. I thought I knew it all going into my first grow and ended up depriving my plants of nutierents because I was so Paro of burning them with nutes. Good luck and have fun

the read and blue talk thats going on in here....

the new guy does know what the diffrence is right? I mean he said he was confused and no one ever seemed like they tried to explain it any.

red/blue is the color spectrum of the bulb. meaning that the bulb produces more of that type of light than the other.
blue is for growing the plan in its veg stage. red is for forcing the plant into going into flowering.
Ive never seen a t-5, but if i read correctly it has multiple 4ft floro bulbs in it right?
if thats the case then replace half of the bulbs in every other bulb sockets to red bulbs since it probably came with blue bulbs.

now how to tell which bulb is which.
on 4ft flurorecent tubes (and most light bulbs period) there is a peice of cardboard in the package that says the lumen's, energy used, bulb life, and the color temperature (measured in K, which is degrees kalvin)

the number with a K next to it is what you look at to determine if it's red/blue spectrum light.
for flowering you want a "warm light" but make sure its bulb temp is about 2500k-3500k
and veg any "cool white" or bulb that is 6500k-7000k should do fine.

read as much as you can while your grow is still young so that you dont miss any info that you could possibly use to make your grow as easy going as possible.
