Switching CFL- HPS...Any Recommendations on Watts for my grow tent?

Ladies and Gents,

I'm about 5 weeks into Flower on my first Grow. I'm using lots of CFL Bulbs and my results, though not bad are not even comparable to many other HPS grows. I knew this before my grow but the amount of CFL watts I'm using is quite large. I also allowed my plants to become too large given my grow space.

I digress...LoL.

Now, I have a grow tent 4' Long X 2' Wide X 5' Tall. I'm torn between purchasing a 250 watt or 400 watt HPS grow light with a coolable tempered glass reflector. My concerns; will a 400 watt system be overkill resulting in burned plants and/or other problems i don't know about? Will a 250 watt HPS have enough Lumens to produce Vigorous hearty dense buds provided my given grow space? I'd rather not use any side lighting.

well a 400w covers aprox. 4x4 ft. Being a little narrower than specs just make sure you vent enough and it should be fine.

I should have mentioned the ballast will be located outside of the grow tent.

Right now, Hot air is exhausted by a duct fan outside of the room via side window. Air inside the room is exchanged by a dual widow fan, one fan in-taking & the other side exhausting air.

I haven't had any temperature issues so I have not had to force cool air inside of the tent. I have another Duct fan and an extra ventilation hose if the need were to arise in the future.

I'm planning on completing this grow and starting another grow (hydroponically) immediately after. I'd like to finish before the end of May latest. This way I avoid the summer heat and battling excessive heat temperatures.

go with 400 you will love the results and it does not take much to vent the heat. i use cheap 3$ desk fans to vent my room no glass case or crazy hood for venting the heat. just worry about venting the smell desk fans will not help for that. good luck
