does anyone know if/how to remove the ballast off one of these setups? i like the lite but it puts of to much heat. If i remove the ballast and locate it outside the room it will help a lot with the heat?

Some of the heat given off by that light will come from the ballast, yes. So relocating the ballast away from the bulb will drop the temps slightly, but in my experience even a 600w ballast in or out of a room will only make a few degrees of difference.
HPS will run hot, the only thing you can really do is cool the bulb. Not by blowing air at it, that would just spread the heat around the room. The best thing is to vent hot air away from the bulb and out of the room. If you remove the ballast it will make it easier to cool, but it won't make it a great deal cooler on it's own.

Do u have this in a very tight box or closet. I had that light while growing in my dorm. I hung it inside my dresser with the two bottom drawers missing. I had great grows. Heat never really an issue. Maybe raise it higher off ur plants

unless you got that thing in a tight space, you shouldn't have a problem with heat. Those 150's throw a relitively managable amount of heat. If your dealing with a tight space and you wanna remove the ballast, just remove the light socket, and wire a decent gague extention from the ballast to the socket., Mount the socket safely and appropriately within your box to avoid fires. you may need to re think your exhaust design, coool tubing those 150's is rather easy and works well for tight box grows.

It shouldn't be hard, just use your head. I tore apart a 400w Sun System 2. It was fine. On the 400w the ballast was on one side, and I left the divider in because there was the socket mount. when I have time I will remove the divider that seperates the bulb area from the old ballast area and remount the socket. Good luck

I don't think it should be argued with period, that a attached ballast vs. remote ballast will vary the heat in most space. I didn't like the idea of thinking about something 35 pounds hanging over my plants. I like the lightweight hoods. 150w probably doesn't put out a whole lot of heat
