I'm running octopots. There's a main reservoir (13gal), a control reservoir (3gal), and two plant reservoirs (6gal each).
I just dropped my seeds last night, so there's no plant activity or anything.
I used plain tap water and added h2o2 to the reservoir before opening the valves. The EC was 136μS (.136mS) - these are not PPM numbers they're EC. Just tap and 5ml/gal 35% h2o2.
I'm using fox farms coco loco in the grow bags, fresh not re-used. I didn't amend it at all.
Last night everything was gravy, PH 5.5 a little low but nbd at this point, all reservoirs were within 5% of eachother on the EC.
This morning about 16 hours later the reservoir and control are still in-line, haven't budged a bit. The two plant reservoirs are at 5000μS (5mS)!! There's no roots or anything, so it's just the wick and the coco loco hitting the water doing its thing and upticking.
That's just a crazy number IMO. I wouldn't have batted an eye at 1.5mS or lower, but 5? Funny enough the PH stayed the same.
It's obviously got to be the coco loco and I'm almost certain that this is both expected and perfectly fine, but I'd like someone with experience weighing in.
My plan is to leave it for at least 3 weeks, just add h2o2 to sterilize the res (using non-organic nutes) every 2-3 days, and monitor. I'm assuming the EC will lower as everything evens out and the taproot hits the water? Then once the plant is established and the EC lowers under 1mS I'll make a decision and add nutes.
That huge EC is a scary number tho.
