Stretch!

So my first 2 plants in 7 years are about 6 weeks old, and my 250w HPS light is not strong enough. I've had the light about 8 inches away but I am getting major stretch in my plants. Is this going to harm them at all or just effect my weight? Also short of getting the 400w (which I am in 2 paychecks) is there anything I can do to help them? I'm using Roots Organic soil, and Fox Farm "Open sesame", "Beastie Bloomz", and "Cha Ching". I just finished up the "Open Sesame" schedule and am about to start "Beastie Bloomz"

250W could be a lot closer than 8 inches bro.. A lot closer.... You could top them a little lower!! If ya don't mind 2 cola's.

watttt???? i would not go much closer than 8 inches with a 250 watter, unless you have them in an air cooled hood that is..
i've grown plenty of strains under a 250 hps / mh and i've never noticed any crazy stretch to them at all...
what strains are you growing at the moment under them?? if they are sativa or sativa dom, this could be the reason for the stretch..
you could also get a few cfl's to add as side lighting in the like 6500 k rating at the biggest actual wattage you can find as well.. don't really think it should be much of an issue growing 2 plants under a 250 watter though ime.. ah, just read that you're using an hps, are you in vegetive stage or flowering stage right now?? if you're vegging, you should be using an mh bulb and not an hps bulb for this as hps bulbs are more in the red spectrum and better suited for flowering and mh's are more in the blue spectrum and better suited for vegetive growth..

They're in budding cycle so they will stop growing shortly. When you switched them to flower they would put on a growth spurt, thats normal. The 400w would be good for flowering though.

So first off thanks for the help. I decided to try something and I topped the taller of the 2 and left the other 1 alone. Just having a little experiment since I haven't grown in 7 years. Should be cool. I will update pics tomorrow when I have the lights on.:weed::weed::weed:

Lst is low stress traing. basically bending them (and some minor breaking) to make the tops uniform in height and to open up the plant so the bottom growth gets more light. Do a search on it. You should find plenty of info.
