Strange Plants / New Encounters

Hey folks,


Bit of a lengthy story, but I’d like a bit of advice on something I’ve never seen / encountered before and on people’s opinion on wether or not she will need binning?


Back in November 2018, I took 8 cuttings off my OG. They rooted fine using jiffy peat pellets so transferred to mini pots and put in my prop box under a small T5 reflector.

They didn’t grow much but seemed happy enough, while I was flowering the parents.


Cropped the parents, everything fine, albeit yield not too great, but quality was decent.


Cleaned up and got the tent ready to put the cuttings in and I noticed that they were throwing up pistils and looked like they were flowering. Well in fact, I’m certain they were flowering even though they were a couple of inches tall. The light was on 24/24 and to my knowledge was uninterrupted.


I was told at my local store to keep going 24/24 and they should re-veg. So not wanting to bin them, and clinging onto hope, I left them on 24/24 under the T5 for about a month and they seemed to loose pistils / hairs a bit and a few new leaves started showing.


Either way, they still looked mutated, odd and confused and in the end I’ve chucked 5 but kept 3 of the ‘better looking’ ones.


I have moved them to my tent under 600w led, 18/6.


Using coco block with rhizo and added perlite


Gold Lable nutes & Bud Link & Aussie Tonic


EC 1.0 to 1.2 (last feed)


Run off was 2.0 to 2.2 (last feed)


Ph (I am unsure of, due to being told that the water in my area is good at the shop. Noob move I have learnt and will be buying a Ph test kit)



Sooooooo... my big question is.. is to bin or not to bin?


Also, what is going on does everybody think?


I’m so confused as I’ve been doing the same thing for about 2yrs with barely any problems and now this curve ball.


Could it be auto traits in the strain? But then the parents veg’d fine and were photo sensitive.


Any help would be much appreciated and I can take some better pics / close ups if needs be.

If the clones were taken while in flower, then they will need to re-veg. The technique of cloning while in flower is referred to as monster cropping. One of the reasons this is called monster cropping is due to how misshapen the plants look as they transition from flowering to vegging again. The other reason this is called monster cropping is because of the monster response the plant shows in that it vigorously grows after establishing the root system. Stick with it and you should be pleasantly surprised.

Hey pal, the cuttings were taken just before I flipped the liighting and weren’t taken in flower.

Any other ideas?

If you have a mother/seeds, I’d get a new crop going.
And check your lights/timer just to be sure nothing is going on there.
Maybe keep one just to see.

If you are relying on a harvest soon or are low on medicine, I would say to at least start a batch of new seeds or take a batch of new clones. If you're well stocked and don't have anything to lose by letting them ride, then have at it. In any event, you may still be better off to get new plants going. That is a very strange occurance, to have clones flower even though their mother was in veg....when you say 24/24, do you mean you leave the light running all the time, or you would run it for 24hrs then leave the lights off for 24hrs? Sorry I just got a bit mixed up there haha.

Hey up pal, thanks for advice. I mean the light is on all the time. I took all 8 cuttings off the same plant before I flipped to flower. Had no probs with parent plant. Just the cuts decided to flower randomly after about 8 weeks in veg under the T5. Bizzare!

Hoping somebody might pipe up and shine a bit more light on this as it has been extremely bonkers.

Could there be possibly some auto traits in the strain? That’s all I can think of. They were OG Kush cuts from a friend, but they ain’t down as auto and my friend did them from seed. Crazy!

If they were auto though they would have flowered same time as the parents, right?
So flowering when 2 inch tall on constant T5 lighting at 8 weeks old I just have no idea at all.

I've never heard of a photoperiod strain having autoflowering tendencies or traits, but I'm not exactly an expert on the genetic side of cannabis growing.
