Strains for war vets and others with PTSD

Hey everyone, long time lurker but only few times poster :-P I am hoping to get some input on what kind of strains of cannabis would or could be useful for patients suffering from War induced PTSD. I am looking for a strain that could be smoked in the morning and all day long to help with anxiety, depression, mood swings, ect. It needs to be something that keeps anxiety levels low but also keeps you energetic and clear headed. Second is a strain that is prolly going to be a very heavy indica, something that will knock you the $#@! out and prolly most importantly would be if it could help keep dreams at bay, or at least keep away night tremors and such. Any other vets out there that have had these problems and found something that works for you? Anyone know any strains that sound like they could fit this description? I apperciate all the help in advance everyone

Peace

Well, its generally sativas that are good day time, uplifting smokes. But! ALOT of sativas also induce paranoia and I would imagine warvets with ptsd would be more susceptible to paranoia. The amount of paranoia is going to depend on each individual person. As a long time smoker and many year grower, I am almost immune to paranoia, or at the very least paranoid is my normal state so weed doesnt add to it. Which makes me not a good person to recommend a specific strain.

As far as knockout indicas, there are plenty that fall into that category. You can basically look for other traits that appeal to you, such as smells and tastes. The indica genetics available today are all potent.

As far as an indica, I recomend Herijuana! Make sure the trichs are about 25-30% amber and you should get a strong narcotic mellow effect. Very good for pain and anxiety and sleep inducing. it was my last grow and Im very pleased. Plan on keeping heri and heri crosses going for a while because they suit my needs. But I have no problem recomending her to others.

Sativa hybrids are the way to go, like Sage from th seeds, Sour Diesel, Jack Herer/C99, Manala 8 miles High ..
Jack Herer/C99 worked for me, gave me a clear head, stimulant high, takes away the minds ability to wander around and keeps me focused.
I just got Cantaloupe Skunk, and Lemon Grass Thai X Deep Chunk, both Sativa hybrids with a clear head, and inexpensive.

Good luck !

Vet myself here and I use cannabis for a variety of maladies I suffer from. Most were military induced.

For my heavy indicas I like Blue Cheese, NYC Diesel, and Bubba Kush. The Blue Cheese is the hands down best indica I've ever had. Makes me wanna go right to sleep and I sleep hard. NYC diesel can be heavy also depending on when you harvest. Bubba Kush is my meds. It helps with the body aches and slows my mind down to keep my anxiety at bay.

For my day time, I like Super Lemon Haze. It doesn't take much. If you do smoke too much it can send you to lala land. Helps with the aches and pains also, but isn't knock down drag out like Bubba and Blue Cheese.

Hope this helps a bit. Semper.

I haven't tried Apollo 11, but I read that it's uplifting and clear headed like Cinderella 99, but without the paranoia. It's supposed to be a good daytime strain. Chocolope and Kali Mist might be good for you too. I hope you find something that helps.

You should never recommend a strain you havent grown/smoked yourself. Internet is full of bullshit, just because you read something doesnt mean it was true.

Use the search engine Leafly. Just based on anxiety alone they have 319 strains. Best of luck in your search.

So SgtJayne, the info I got about Apollo 11 came from some advice on a RIU thread just like this one. But after some newly acquired info, you should take all these recommendations with a grain of salt because apparently these people are full of bullpoo.

:-P Thank you to everyone who has given me feedback about this. Some of the strains that have been mentioned I have looked at before and I'm really glad that they were posted cause that makes me feel a little more comfortable about that actual characteristics of the strain. I am thinking prolly Sour Diesel or NYC diesel and blue cheese for a medicine cabinet stock-up. I plan on looking into all the strains mentioned though because I know plenty of other vets who could use so real medicine and not the pills they keep pushing down our throats. Thanks again everyone :)

I hate the pills. Its what got me looking at mmj. Keep Bubba Kush in your thoughts too. It is well known as one of the best all around medicinal strains high in CBD content

IMO I don't think it matters what strain you use, as long as your switching strains often. Yeah, Sativas are more energetic and better during the day, and Indicas are better at night, but if all I smoke is the same Sativa during the day and the same Indica at night, within a week or two I get so used to them they don't work. And yet the second I go with a new Sativa and Indica I'm back to being high again. There's no chasing the dragon (raising the amount of material I need to burn) if I keep rotating strains.
