Newbie Cloning ... The easy way...
But Sand... There are over twenty steps below...that doesn't sound easy???
If you are not "into" or "down" with details skip this...if you have a short attention span... skip this...However if you want to learn to clone cheap... this method is 'Fool Proof'
The non technical way...The Easy way... Step by Step Fool Proof Clone Method [for Newbies, and those that have trouble cloning]
No doubt, there are other ways to clone... So, if you ever wondered:
"I wish I could clone..." it's way more easy then this Thread sounds...
Seriously easy... Pretty soon... You will get 100% success rate as I do....
I'll Assume you have a nice two nodes to go under medium, and three or so nodes above medium clone...
Area Prep:
If you smoke, use rubbing alcohol on your hands... or use rubber gloves...
Clean area where you will preform surgery...
I use a 'Kitchen' style cutting board...
Sharp scissors, A razor blade or Exacto knife...
Spray Bottle [fine mist spray]
Cloning powder...
Wooden Skewers...cut to 4" and 6"
Miracle Grow Seedling Soil...
Perilite...
Vermiculite...
Super Thrive [use eye dropper 3-4 drops in spray bottle]
Red Solo/Dixie/Party cups...drill 5-10 1/4" holes in bottom
Clear cups...trim as needed to fit inside red cup top..invert .
notch bottom of clear cup where it will come in contact with red cup [air gap]
1-Mix up 50% MG Seedling Soil/25% Perilite/25% Vermiculite = Medium
2-Mix Super Thrive into Spray Bottle fill with good water
3-fill Red Cup 1/2 way up with Medium
4-fine mist the soil--20 squirts of mist
5-push 6" wooden skewer into middle of medium
6-fill remainder of cup 3/4" from top
7-spray mist medium 20 more squirts...
8-Twist skewer spray a few more mists so skewer pulls in and out...
I have cut clones off plant with scissors...
Then I re-cut with sharp blade at 45 degrees...don't skip this...
I gently pull off any small growth-roots come out of these growth areas...
If shaft of clone to be, is hard, I scrape...
After I have pre-cut my clones and they are soaking in a water/ST solution
I have found Super Thrive seems to help my rooting...
My Cloning Powder [all the same] is readied for clones to be dipped into
[I bang jar of powder upside down so it stays in top and gently pull off top
I lay it on its side at a slight angle]
9-I take clone from soak, and handling real easy, I try to handle the fan leaves/shaft of clone
Never touch the open membrane on end of clone...
10-Dip membrane end into clone powder...
11-Pull out skewer from one of the Red Cups...
12-Gently drop into skewer hole your powder tipped clone...
13-Gently compress the soil around the edge of cup towards middle...
14-Tamping down damp medium all around shaft of clone without touching clone...
15- Sometimes [90% of time] I trim leaves on new clone to fit under clear top
gently cut leaf in an arrow shape to fit...
16-Sometimes [75% of time] I use 4" long skewer to prop up clone if flimsy
Like a T-Pee holding the top from falling over...
17-I mist under clone on medium a little more now that clone is seated
18-Once Clone is in Medium, trimmed to fit, propped up, I put the clear dome on top...
19-I then put them under Aquarium Lamps [within 3" of dome] 23 watt CFL's will do
I clone in morning so they get at least 12 hours after clone in medium... more time under light first day is better...
Day 2- I take off dome, wipe the condensation out, and re-mist medium two or three times...
NOT MISTING CLONE OR LEAVES
Day 3-7 same as day two, with dome off a little more each day
If Leaves droop, I cut off droop... so, I cut tips of leaves off all the time...
Day 7 Dome comes off you prob have roots...I now put clone under 50 watts + of CFL for a week or two before Transplant...
You have a plant... It has a couple of branches on the bottom, that will yield nothing anyway...
Why Not practice your cloning art...
For under $10.00 you are on your way...
Good Luck !!!
My next Cloning is Friday Morning...2/7...
around 6 per week... so yes... clones of clones...
