Hi. I am a new member here, but I have had experience with growing. Last year, my cousin and I did a closet grow using a HPS light and autoflowers. I would like to stick to autos for now since I have limited space and time.
I plan to build a Stealth box out of two, large "stacked" tote bins. I would be using CFLs since the HPS generates a fairly large spike in electricity bills. I share an apartment with two roommates, so I want to keep it on the down low as possible. I plan to use two higher wattage CFLs as the main top lamp and about four 23-watt CFLs on the sides of the plants. The bins would be kept in my closet (I am not doing a full closet grow due to the necessity of using most of the closet space).
Speaking of the plants, I plan to buy two different auto strains and grow one of each. Since, autos are pretty straightforward, I would probably be using either an 18/6 or 20/4 light cycle. Along with the lights, I will be using at least two computer fans for intake and exhaust. I will also build a DIY carbon filter to limit the smell during flowering. I will most likely be using Fox Farms nutes, since I had a good experience with the last grow.
Okay, now here are my questions:
With the autos, is it necessary to use different lights for both the veg and flowering stages? Or can I use just one set throughout?
Has anyone had experience with a DIY carbon filter? If so, would one be enough to diminish the smell of two autos? I would really like to keep the grow unknown, because I do not want my roommates to either bug me about the smell. Are there any other tips on deterring the smell?
Any tips on the setup? Has here used a similar setup? (I will upload a mockup soon).
