stealth dresser with LEDs ---> SLH & TD in supersoil DAY1 FLOWERING

There is big discussions on this forum about LEDs being a big scam, mixed opinions all over the forum, I decided that I would find out for myself. So the lighting might change along the way but it's gonna be strictly LEDs.

First of, the frame:

dresser.jpgdrawers.jpg1111.jpg1111111.jpgscreen.jpgfanfilter3.jpgfinished2.jpg

I have a 4'' inline fan and a carbon filter, a bit overkill for this dresser but I had it already, and I know it would be better at the top but I prefer to keep the space for the lights, I ll do my best to keep good air circulation. The fan is hooked to a Sunleaves fan Speed Controller, and it goes on 4 min every hour for the 12 hours.

STRAIN:

Super Lemon Haze (vegged 40 days under HIDs)
Tangerine Dream (also vegged 40days under HIDs)

****both plants were super shocked when I re-transplanted from 3gallons back to smaller pot for the dresser, they are just recovering, in case you are wondering why they are so small still...

SOIL :

1 1/2 Bail of dirt ( 3.8 cu.ft. ) ( major component: Canadian Sphagnum Peat Moss (70-75% by volume), Perlite, Dolomitic and Calcitic Limestone, wetting agent, Mycorrhizae )
about 1.5 cu.ft. dirt from my compost

2.5 lbs Guano ( roughly half of a 2.2kilo bag )
5 lbs Flower Power mix from Welcome Harvest Farm 4-10-4 ( fish meal, bone meal, greensand, canola seed meal, langbeinite, kelp meal, rock phosphate )
2.5 lbs Fish & Crab from Welcome Harvest Farm 8-5-1
2.5 lbs Neem Cake 4-3-2
30liters of castings worm
2 tbsp Humic Acid

Now the fun part... LIGHTS:

current:

100W Diamond Series LEDs - Extreme 3w LED Technology
90W QUAD BAND LED GROW LIGHT UFO 90

to come: (I might swap the diamond for this one or run all 3 LEDs...)

Fero 180 4G Series LED Grow Light (60x3W)

I can already say that the LEDs are not as heat free as they claim, especiallly the UFO, in a small dresser it's enough to bring the temps up to about 29degrees celcius... I have 3 small co2 bottles going to counter the heat... (yeast & sugar)

ok so it's day 1 of flowering, like I said earlier, they had a tough start, but they are doing well now and we'll see how this LED dresser perform!

NOTE: in the event of a total flop, the gardener ( I ) and/or the lights could be the cause!

More pics will be joining the party every once in a while, cheers! :leaf:

tangerine dream, a big bowl of fuck yeah. I don't grow photoperiods but a friend of mine does you'll be very happy with this strain.

yes hopefully, I hear it often goes much longer than 70 days to harvest... I am at day 2, won't be for a while!!

I don't want to be a downer but you're right man, it will take longer than 70 days, that's just the flowering period listed on the advert (or at least the one I saw at http://www.worldwide-marijuana-seeds.com/products/barneys-farm-tangerine-dream).

The smoke however is aptly named and worth the wait. From knowing a fellow gardening enthusiast who's grown this strain I'd say you're in the 90-100 day ballpark if you force flower right now.

I know you've read my journal and know what I grow but I can't say it enough - autos are the tits. Treat 'em right and using a reputable strain you can easily pull well over an oz of super heady nuggets in 50-65 days seed to harvest. I may grow a photo here or there but there are several great reasons I've chosen to grow autos pretty much exclusively.

That being said I'm still buckled up, and looking forward to seeing what you're gonna turn out with these ladies.

I think I can see signs of flower, it's been 6 days since flip. I run the fan for the 12 hours the lights are on right now, temps around 24 degrees, humidity around 50%. The plants look healthy, but not very big for their age...

The lights so far : I should get the Fero any day now, I am tempted to keep only the Fero in the dresser just to try the light. For now, the UFO seems a lot brighter to the eye than the Advance extreme 3W led 100w... But I am learning that high lumens output is not necessarily needed... we'll seee how it goes.

just a little pics update, I cleaned them up a bit the other day,... now I won`t touch them again, not much action for day 11-12 of flowering... I think maybe they were shocked when I first switch to 12-12 because the temps were way high.

DAY 13-14 FLOWER

little update, I used my girlfriend's camera today, will be using more often... I still suck at taking pictures but the camera makes it look alright

I got a little experiment going ... I had cut a branch accidently when cleaning the plants for the last time, and I found it 2 days later hanging off the plant! I stick it in a bottle cap with water and since then it totallyl looks like it's back to life! I might plant it.

The other one is a AK clone that I put in the dresser with no roots... another experiment... and the middle is all brown and dying but the old leaves are (also quite ugly) refuse to die, the little girl seem to be stiff and rooted now... I dont know if it will die but I dont expect anything out of that plant anymore. I was hoping to get a bud for christmas but 'I cant see it happening now.

I know the diamon LED is in an odd spot but I should be getting a new light soon and the diamond won't stay in the dresser, not the right size / foot print for my current setup.

thats about it. Cheers :leaf:

I got the FERO yesterday, so the current lights in the dresser are the Blackstar 240 and the FERO.

Quick review of the FERO VS the blackstar:

First of all, The FERO seems very well built, similar to the advanced diamond in that regard. For small lights, I prefer to have a square as suppose to a long skinny rectangle like the Diamond, so it also has convenient size. When they built the frame for the light, they were planning on using the 2 buttons (each buttons controlling half the diodes) they decided to go a safer route, so it's full on, or off, there is no VEG mode or FLOWER mode like the 2 buttons on it would suggest. I was never planning on using the light half strength so I don't care  Everything looks solid, I am very happy with it. Now let see if it delivers!!

Now the Blackstar, I may have said this earlier on this thread but since I am giving a short review of each light, let's recap. At first glance, the Blackstar looks really good, but looking inside I can see big mess of glue, and it looks like it was built very quickly. But the worst is everytime I slightly hit the power cord near the light, the light goes off like the connector is so fukin sensitive ... I hope it stays on when I get the fans going in the dresser... Otherwise it looks like it's giving off enough light for the plants.

Now in the pictures, one of them you can see I have a side by side blackstar Fero, it doesnt say much, just to show the difference when the FERO is ON or OFF with the Blackstar ON on each picture,.

FERO4.jpgFERO.jpgfero5.jpgFERO3.jpgferoonferooff.jpgFERO2.jpg

I ll keep you posted on how that goes, so far it looks like the flowers between each light cannot make up their mind on which direction to go!! hehe

I first started this grow journal on a different forum, called Stealth Dresser with FERO 180 4G LED Grow Light. But I only got the FERO a few days ago and so for a while I was running different lights in the dresser. A few people on that other forum were hoping I would test the light like my title would suggest so I decided I would go on with my first plan. As of today, I will grow these 2 plants only with the FERO and we'll see how that goes. ledbudguy from ledbudguy.com will also be putting the light to the test if you care to follow. Here is a few pics of the plants today! Cheers.

Some pictures of today, 2 days after I took the Blackstar out, it seems to me like the buds are still growing good, I hope I get my 6'' portable fan in the mail tomorrow because the airflow is really poor. The soil is drying super slowly, last time I watered was 5 or 6 days ago, I am glad I got the supersoil going I dont feel like they are missing out on nutes because of it. Otherwise things are going good, anyone can tell me what's up with the TD, it's budding all-right but the leaves dont have much pep in them. Thanks for stopping by, any comments or advices are welcome. :leaf:

I have seen enough of the FERO on it's own for now, seems to work! Sorry for changing my plan again... but I gotta do what make sense.

The reason why I am putting the 90W UFO along with it now is that I have to have the inline fan going all the time to keep the temps/humidity down, and it makes no sense to have 60+Watt of fan for only 140Watt of lighting... Since most people would agree that the 90W UFO isnt the greatest light, I think that we<ll have a good idea about the FERO anyway.

You can see in the pics, I did a before and after, I think it's the same bud, it looked the same on the pictures anyway... I wish I would have taken more pictures of the buds on the 18th when I took the other lights out... it looks like they grew significantly bigger in those 4 days. Cheers :peace:

The SLH looks like it will be ready way ahead of time! I don't know if it's because the plant was so shocked and had so little leaves or just from the LEDs... on the other hand, the TD is just barely staying alive, ... still hoping for a turn around. I am looking forward to see how Mr.Blue goo does with his FERO, I think I had mine too close to the plants for the longest time. but who knows!!?

DAY 45! (or thereabout)

The TD is doing better, but it's too little too late. It only makes it harder for me to scratch it. The thing is I don't want to wait another 45 days to get so little. The Super Lemon Haze is not really moving... since I am not very happy with those 2 plants I think I might cut them arount the 30th... the SLH smells really good though... and look like it might be ready or almost by then.

On a good note, the silly clone (A branch I found 24 hours after cutting it accidently) made it and it looks like I have an healthy clone out of the TD so I might be good to get some true good smoke out of it, won't be much because it 12/12 from clone, I will transfer it to another room when I turn the dresser off for the year.
