I have yet to vent my room and have found the fan I want (465 CFM Squirrel Cage Fan from HTG Supply). I am curious to know if anyone can tell me how noisy these fans and ones of similar size are? thanks to all that help.

I stuck my squirrel cage up in the attic and I cannot hear anything. It pulls over 500cfm. There are a few ways to make sure that the noise is a minimum.

-You can hang the cage. Get some plumbing strap and hand it from 4 sides from the rafters. I have hung AC systems like this for years and you will get minimum sound and vibration.

-You can also just set it on a rubber mat on a board across your rafters. This just happens to be what I am doing right now. I didn't feel like getting the drill out to hang it. Sooooo lazy.

-Keep the cage away from the area you are pulling the air from. I have 20 feet of duct between my grow and my fan. This keeps the blower motor or wheel noise far off.

I know that lots of people put their fans in the room but it is to crowded for my situation. I kind of look at it from an A/C perspective as I said earlier.

Peace and good luck.

Thanks for your guys input.

(if you don't mind me asking, where did you get your SCF?)

In the photo you will see the room where I grow (in the closet, right door) I will be venting out the window to the left. I have a custom made enclosure to go over the window and seal it so no light or smell can escape. I will be hooking the SCF (squirrel cage fan) to some ducting with a carbon filter. Do you think if the blower is attached to the enclosure it will make much noise to the outside?
