i have a closet thats about 4 by 4 by ten feet high. i have 3 100 watt hps lamps , 2 cfls, 1 2 tube 4 ft floro, and 2 1 tube floros. is this over kill for my spot. is there a better way to set these up? thanks guys. +rep for good advise. the light at the top doesnt move, or at least i havnt moved it anyway, but i use totes to stack the plants on and as they grow i can pull as many out to create space as i need to. with training i havnt even had to yet. i can fit about 8 or ten 5 gallon buckets in there space is not an issue for me. but set up is...

Not enough light. 4x4 should have the equivalent of a 600w hps. That means 95,000 lumens. I doubt you are anywhere close to that.

I don't think that's overkill. The more light the better.

Get Fluros/CFLs as close to plants as possible without burning them (usually 1-2" away from plants)

HPS should usually be a few feet away from plants but since yours are only 100W I'm not sure. Just hold your hand near the plant and make sure they're not getting too hot.

And someone will probably tell you to take down the aluminium foil (they usually do). I think this is because it is not the best reflective material (use something like Mylar) and some say it can concentrate the light on the plant in one spot which will cause too much heat and the plant will burn in that area.

My 2c.

i ditched the foil for strait up white paint. dam i have 3 100 watt hps lamps , 3 four foot floros, and a couple cfls and thats still not enough light? shit. i have an uncle who is the head electrician at a hospital. he is wiring me up a 250 hps , will that make it enough? i was just at the spot and its more like 2 1/2 feet deep. 3 1/2 feet across. and im only hanging the lights about 5 feet high. does that change anything?

that looks kind of clusterfucked, no offense. I would build 3 hexagon chicken wire cages( like 2 feet on the inside from side to opposite side) and put a 100 watt hps in each, with a lowryder on each side. you could get maybe 4 to 12 ounces per hexagon. Its supposed to tripple your yeild cus there is no reflector or wasted light. looks good so far, though.

You can grow with less, what I said above about typically a 600w hps is used over 4x4 is the ideal. You would just reap less weight with less light.

No need to panic.

The addition of a 250w hps should do it. I think you're close enough there to get coverage and spread the cfl clusterfuck around as needed to cover any darker areas or something.

And yes hang chicken wire above the lights to hang the lights from with some chain and hooks so they can be moved anywhere and any height easily.

Sometimes you just do what you gotta do...
