well usually people buy these to vent out the air in a sealed room, grow box or tent. they put out lots of cfm and continue to do so evan with a carbon filter attached. kinda why there high priced, there not your standard fan, there a blower. most will clear all the air out of a room in about 5 min this being said adding a carbon filter to them takes most of the smell out of the air if not all depending on size. i built a tent in my closet and have a blower exhausting all the air out of it.

Get you a Squrrel Cage fan and attach duct hose to it and make your own exhaust bro.

You can do either with them. They work great to run inline with a vented hood and a carbon filter. I use mine with the carbon filter up high in the ceiling, then some ducting to the fan, then some ducting to the hood, then ducting out of the room. I have a passive intake (hole in the wall) at the bottom of the room for fresh air to come in. I have a 400 cfm fan on a speed regulator and depending on the temperature I use about 1/3 of the power of the fan up to 1/2. I have a 600 water running in about 3.5' x 4' with a 3' x 3' usable grow area. My temps stay some where around 80 or so depending on if I have the a/c on or not.

Thanks for the advice man. I was thinking about getting a 250 watt hps with the ballast built in. Do u think I can keep the temp low with the 2 fans and an air conditioner in my room thanks

Ideally, you'd like 2 forms of intake air. 1 to cool the hoods/lights and 1 for fresh air intake. With some fancy duct work, you can draw this inbound air from the same source. It's nice to filter this inbound air via HEPA filter as well. It helps problems before they start.

Inbound air should be drawn in from a low point in the room. Heat rises, thus heat/outbound air should be removed from the top of the room.

Outbound air that comes from the room, and NOT from sealed lighting fixtures/hoods/cooltubes, should be "scrubbed" via a Carbon filter. Proper venting keeps temps down, and that is usually a good thing.

Clean cool air in; hot, dirty air out.

Keeping a few fans within the room are required. Air movement helps avoid lots of problems. Considering 2 small desk fans are under $20, that is CHEAP insurance for me.

As for ballast, i prefer to keep them outside the growing area if possible.

$68, you can't beat it.
Fresh air in , stale air out. Sounds so simple really.
Just be sure to consider things like negative air pressure, pulling into a vacuum, and positive air pressure.
You must try to acheive a 0 static pressure if your true goal is stealth.
