Some advice about smell?

Im pretty sure at some point or another you have taken a sample bud off of one of your ladies just a bit shy of harvest time to try.

Well here's my issue. I am growing autoflowering Easy Ryders one is a week younger then the other so im going to ignore that one. The oldest one is the one with the issue. The growing time for the strain is 60-75days. She is 60day old now.

Obviously im waiting im slightly impatient but I have self control for now. Set up is 400w hps with remote ballast in a wardrobe with wardrobe door open all time and window open and AC style fan unit. Bio Bizz All Mix Soil & Bio Bloom nutes.

Last week there was a lovely spicy, fruity smell which was great! I couldn't wait. But now I took a cut and quick dried it on my ballast. Just smells like grass and when I smelt the plant that just smells like grass too. Will she get her smell back over next week or so?

Wow I wrote loads. Any help be appreciated! Thanks for taking time to look!

Peace :weed:

Sorry I will clarify simple terms: Smelt really nice last week and closer it getting to harvest the more it smells of grass. I cut and quick dried a bit and still smells of grass. Basically why?

Thanks feva thought it might be. So will this naturally go with a nice long dry? Or anything I can do to help ease it?

Come on someone. Any way to speed up the chlorophyll break down wen I hang dry when I harvest properly? Do not want to be stuck with horrible smelly bud.

Your buds will not smell good until you fully dry them correctly/slowly.

Then the cure method in jars will remove the chlorophyll/hay smell within a few weeks...

Yeah this is my plan I am willing to wait. Thing is she smelt lovely a week ago when growing now she hasn't got much smell. Think it has slightly start to come back today. This right? I gave a flush and a fresh dose of flowering nutes so that may done the job. what you think?

flush for atleast a week with no nutrients whatsoever...the week before harvest. Don't worry about leaves dying...they are supposed to at the end stage.

The reason it smells like that is because you quick dried it. If you want good smelling/tasting bud then you need to let the buds dry in complete darkness for at least a week. Have air flowing above or below the buds but not directly on them. Once the buds seem dry (there are several was to tell), you should cure them in jars also in complete darkness for again at least a week. The longer you wait the better the bud.

Cheers for the help but personal preference says one of my plants I will flush and one I wont to try difference. There organic and will dry for a long time. Do you have to hang in dark? If so why?

You dry in total darkness to lower the chance of mold on your buds. If you are slow drying (which you should do), then you need to eliminate light because you are going to have issues with mold. And I don't believe that growing organically increases the overall drying time. You can send me a link concerning that if you can find one. Marijuana buds contain cannaboids which continue to increase in potency as well as smell and taste even after you have harvested your plants. When you speed dry you damage these cannaboids and thus cause a worse product, especially if you are using heat. I like to put part of my harvest in a dry box that is comprised of a rubber maid box with a small fan blowing in and a small fan for exhaust. This drys the buds in a few short days and I have something to smoke while I'm waiting for my large harvest to dry and cure. I suggest giving long drying a try.
