Soil recommendations for autos

A friend of mine just up and decided he was going to grow, and he is worse than a beginner for knowledge. I never even knew he smoked any. Anyhow, not knowing what he was doing he ordered 20 white widow autos and planted and all came up (used soil from the yard in an egg carton) long story short he gave me 4. I’ve only grown pheno’s. Is there a recommended soil for autos? Ocean forest?

I use ocean forest for my photos and autos.

just use a good organic soil from a shop, sorry im english so dont know whats available to you+i make my own soilup from potting compost with an added organic soil ammendment. organic soil addative from the local tip. and i top dress with my own compost and spent soil from a previous grow.
but keep it simple, you can get away with a container of good quality potting soil and you will maybe have to feed the plant once or twice for the whole grow time.

Sounds good. I figured so, but if there was something people used consistently because of better measured results, I wanted to use that. Thanks.

Give em back lol. Sorta joking, if your good at keeping a plant healthy 24/7 for a whole run you can get decent numbers I hear. I regularly hit over a gram per watt with regular plants. The only time I finished any autos I got like 4 ounces from 630 watts of cmh. Normal plants in the same space would hit 20-22 ounces.

But that was my fault I guess as I somehow stunted the plants. Once they get stunted tho there is basically nothing you can do to keep em from being small. I had 10 plants altogether and all finished roughly the same size.

As far as soil recommendations for autos I'd Google and look at this other forum where that's mostly what they grow. I can't remember what they use, but I do know that a lot of organic soil straight from the bag is too hot for auto flower.

Cant ever go wrong with ocean forest and it’s never been “too hot” it’s a great soil and I’ve been using it for a long time.

One of my autos that I’m running along side my photos. Put in FFOF right from germ’d seed.

FFOF is widely used and is a great medium if used correctly. Some use the Happy Frog version of FF as it's less hot. Personally, I use bio bizz light mix...and have for years.... bottom line, medium type is important, but it's how it's used that makes as much difference.

One big thing I have noticed with people who have issues with FFOF is indeed just that, they’re not using it correctly. Bio bizz, my cousin used that and swore by it. Wasn’t for me but good stuff nonetheless.

Depending on your region and local sources ... “ most “ bagged “ soil will suffice in running an auto full term.

Autos are wired to average about 90 days or so of life , easy for most bagged mixes. FFOF , Happy Frog , Recipe 420 ( EB stone ) , Black Magic , etc.

Most are good peat based aerated mixes , some more complete in nutes than others. FFOF has probably the most densely nuted of the list. Some strains do burn slightly at beginning but plant will acclimate as long as you don’t overthink it. It will run an auto for weeks on water alone ( ph 6.5 ) and on tap water too. By the time stretch phase has just about stopped a simple top dress of “ more “ ffof watered in will recharge / feed medium - all without bottled nutes. Plant stays “ cleaner “ without more unnecessary additives and supplements.

FFOF can be “ tempered “ down by cutting it with a mild mix also. When i run autos - i run a bottom 1/3 of container with ffof ( as a charged base ) and top fill rest of container with milder mix. I just water and let them do their thing. LST / minor topping can help bump plants too.

Best auto soil mix i have come up with is this:

50% of 60/40 coco/clay pebbles mix
10% extra clay pebbles
10% perlite(you could use just clay pebbles or perlite, using both in not necessary)
20 % biobizz all mix
10% biobizz light mix(you could just use all mix)

Exact measurements doesent matter, you could use less perlite/clay pebbles and more soil, and you could use something else than all mix, its just what i used because its good and comes with extra perlite.

This ofc is extremely light on nutes, but you add biotabs full set in it and voilá, it turns into slow release supersoil, which will be light at the beginning and then release enough nutes most likely for the whole grow so that you just add some pk-boost during flowering. Ofc kelp and that sort of stuff is great also to add, but base nutes should all be there and if they start to run out, you can always start to feed it nutes.

Mix equal parts FFOF and FFHF. Then mix in about 15% perlite. Best I’ve heard for FF soil.

Please your help....my baby is 60 days old and will be due for a transplant in about 15 days. I did a bad thing from what I found out after I did it, but used miracle grow Organics. She loved it and I have no trouble but, I want to transplant her to ocean forest. Since I am reading it already has nutes, when do you suggest after transplanting to start fox farm trio nutes? Also she is small for her age, she has never had nutes ever, just from the soil but used balanced ph water. I appreciate your time if you can

Update: day 32. Went with straight FFOF. No problems. Used FF veg nutes, and just switched to maxiBloom. I have never used maxiBloom, so this is kind of a test. I’ve heard good things, and it’s easy to use, so since these were free, thought it’d be the time to test. It doesn’t mix real easy though.

I use an old food blender to mix MaxiBloom.....start with a bit of hot water and mix for 30 second...done like dinner

I seem to be having good results with straight out of the bag Sunshine mix #4 Aggregate plus.. I have three Bubba Kush autos about 13 days old, only on 6.5ph tap water and they seem healthy..
