soil help

Alright so im looking for some adivce soil wise. I live in an area where the soil has a lot of clay in it. The area i am looking at does have plants growing around it though we have cleared the patch we wanna grow in out, and the soil has worms in it. I know though that the better the soil the easier the grow outdoors will be. So what im wondering is what is the best way to prepare the soil to get it ready for grow. I know its a little late, and that in fact i should have done this last fall, but thats the past. So what do you guys advise. I really figured the outdoor grow would be easier than indoors since plants tend to like living in nature better than inside atleast imo.

Do you plan on buying good soil and digging large holes? Or large pots?Thats probably the best way.

The area I grow in is mostly clay and I always buy super soil.

I wouldn't say that growing outdoors is easier because it requires some planning on when you can put your plants outside and it also limits what size they can be. Although growing outside isn't going to limit the size it is also takes a little more time then growing indoors. As for your soil, if it is really clayey and has poor drainage you may want to consider mixing sand in with the soil. Now depending on what other qualities the soil has around there you could possible need to add other things as well. One main thing you should check though is the pH, you can buy pH paper or pH testing cit at local grow shops. Another thing that is important to soils is organic matter, high levels are indicated by a darker soil. If you don't have good organic matter you won't have much nitrogen in the soil, you can fix this with fertilizers or organically with compost, worm casting, ect.

I tried a few plants in the clay soil close to where I live for the hell of it a few years ago.Very poor results.

Unless it's a former horseshit pile or fertilized properly,results won't be good.

Take a look around this site for general info. No one can know the growing area and conditions better than you, we can only advise based on our own experiences. Would you prefer pots or in the ground? Ammend compost to local soil, or import "super soils"? Check out this sites FAQ section for a lot more information regard the entire growing process. Decide what to do based on your own set of circumstances etc. Good luck and

well we have a good spot to grow in and i was thinking it would be easiest to actually have them in the ground since its closer to water level. if they were in pots it would tkae a lot more watering. I do plan on mixing the clay with soil that we would buy, and im wondering what is the best type of soil to mix it with. I was also thinking about mixing in some peat moss and humus depending on its price. idk im just trying to figure this out. it would be a shame to have a bad crop because of poor soil content, so i figured it would not hurt to ask around

thats probably a good idea. idk right now i am thinking that outside might not be the best idea in the long run. The reason behind my thinking is this. I live in the southeast and the humidity here is usually between 70-100% sometimes more after a rain. Also the summer is often in the 90's especially in late june and july. From what i have read neither of these factors would be good for an outdoor grow. What do yall think? I mean other plants grow awesome here, but i know that canabis can be pretty picky. I got some good seeds and dont wanna waste them in an environment that is not suitable for growing them.

You can never go wrong with adding peat moss, I was able to pick some up for $5 for 3.8 cubic ft I would also consider adding perlite and water absorbing crystals. The main thing is to make sure the soil is loose and not clumped together.

if your going to mix it with your local soil, get 2 3.5 cu ft bags of perlie and mix 35% perlite into your mix for drainage..... I am using local soil in my outdoor grow this year, I mixed it with my own mix of super soils. Its cheaper to go organic and mix maybe one or two bags of super soil in with it: Just get worm castings, chicken shit, horse manure, humus, peatmoss, and perlite and mix it all together with your local soil BEFORE you mix in the couple bags of super soil. I just mixed my soils yesterday, and am just about to update my outdoor journal with the info. I didn't buy any organic ammendments, and I didn't get everything I just mentioned either, I got some chicken shit, horse manure, and humus for free, .
