Yes theres a difference, hydro can be very harsh if not flushed correctly and is still kinda funny tasting compared to soil.

Hydro has faster growth but is easy to burn.

Organic tastes better than chem, you can do both with hydro or soil, you can also go chem with both. Soil DOES taste better either way, but Hydro sure as hell don't taste bad, its all good. Probably the best reason to go hydro is the month or 2 of time saved by the extreme growth possible in Hydro. Plants can double in size every 7 days in hydro to a point. Also with Hydro YOU are in control of most aspects of the plants existence, if you screw it up there really isn't much to blame but yerself. Soil is easier to grow as there isn't much to it really, water once in a while and give it light. pretty easy if everything is up to snuff. Hydro depends on PH being within a small window at all time. Then there are PPM/EC readings you need to do to ascertain salt (Fert) levels of the res everyday. Pumps and airstones that can fail in hydro, lots more maintenance.

I have done em both, I prefer the controlled atmosphere of hydro. once you have everything down its easy to get great results and the growth is crazy, attached 2 pics of 1 weeks growth in hydro.
