SOG Pot Size

I have three 3x3 tables.

I want to have one vegging, two flowering. I have a 4x8 tent.

I bought the wrong pot sizes I think. Do you guys think this will work? They're 4" pots. I plan to have these girls in coco with a layer of hydroton. I am ebbing and flowing. Each flower table is under a 1000w. The veg is under a T5 8 bulb.

Here is a size comparison next to what I believe is a 6" pot and the one all the way on the right is the one gallon. I'm currently using 1 gallon but feel if I use 4-6" square pots I can fit more.

I've completed one grow and this is my first SOG and first ebb and flow and first coco/hydroton grow so bear with me. Is it true once rooted you can water coco twice a day? Sativa's or sativa dom's I'd go 12/12 from seed..keeps them shorter and less side branching , indica's you could veg for 2 or 3 weeks depending on the strain as some will veg faster then others then flip the lights...I can put 25 one gal. pots in my tent .

What size is your tent? These will go in an 8x4 tent with 2000w. Are you able to pull a zip per plant?

1 sq. metre or 40" by 40" and yes a zip per pot is always possible..again strain dependent... the idea in SOG is 4 plants per square foot of floor space/table space etc. , so there you're looking for square 6" pots that are 6" to 8" deep .

Hey Qwizo, long time no see.

My goal is about a pound my first run to optimize this set up to about 2 lbs a month. I expect about a 10-28 grams a plant from the 1 gallon. Height is a big restriction. I figured with 61 4" potters instead of 25-30 1 gallons I could get more.

With height being a restriction as well I'd have to LST a shit ton for those three gallons. I don't mind at all if it means I can hit that 2 lb a month mark. I realize it's high, working towards it within the next year.

I'm using White Widow, Blueberry and a Diesel for this clone run. The Blueberry vegs very tight so that's why I'm giving her high numbers.

At my density i believe I have like 6.7 plants per square foot.

3x3 = 9 square feet
61/9 = 6.7 plants per square foot.

I was reading about how 4ppsf is optimal and cramming up to 9ppsf could end up being detrimental to total yield. In my ebb and flow set up I have 28 gallon rez connected to another 40 gallon rez that I top feed so watering is even and consistent so maintenance isn't really what I'm worried about, more on how to use the space the most effectively.

I'm very concerned about the idea of these pots leading to root bound plants by the second month of flower. In coco I'd keep it wet once they rooted so as to treat it like hydro. I figure I'd put them in those planters until I saw vertical growth and flower immediately. If I pull 10-14 grams a plant It won't be to bad. If I end up on the lower end of 4-10 then I'd switch up pots and veg longer.

thatd be an interesting grow.

you can pack the plants pretty tight depending light source ive done a row every 10-12" and every few inch down that row.. i wouldnt go closer. they just overlap and you loose amount of quality bud for more larf. 2 gal is really pushing it ime with pots touching. ive done that from clone on indicas great.

you should get a good 2 zips off a 3 gal





you know ive done 9 plants sharing just a bag of soil and pulled a lb out a 20x24" or something tub with a couple inch layer of dirt
pulled an oz out of a solo cup too.

root bound is somewhat easy to get around. just lower nute concentrations, raise temp and airflow possibly lower humidity and watch yiur plants

Lower nute concentrations, got it. I was actually shooting for that.

The first feed i did for those plants in SOG was 250 ppm on a .5 EC with 140 TDS from my tap water. They're double the size they were in that picture.

Yeah man people pull an oz out of a solo cup so I don't see why a well fed and watered nutrient zone in a small pot wouldn't promote more vertical growth once the plant has a firm hold on the medium. I understand part of being root bound is that oxygen can no longer enter the roots but I chose coco because it's supposed to somehow combat that problem. Also my water temps are like pretty low which I understand promotes a higher oxygen content.

Am I on the right track? You think I should just give it a shot? If some of those clones don't make it I can just pack it a little less dense.

I hate larf.

Yeah that's the reasoning in 4 per sq. foot so as not to crowd them too much to get light Penetration and to have some amount of root space though not much . They will get root bound . I think it's what you prefer...4 plants 3 zips....1 plant 3 zips...the difference being your veg time so your turn over rate is some what faster with the SOG method . Theoretically you produce more product faster .

Yeah but with three flood and drain tables I'd have to find a way to produce every 2 or 3 weeks instead of every 4 weeks because I can't have a 4 week veg period with such a small pot.

I can theoretically have a 2-5 day veg and then they gotta flower for 2 months but then the week 8 flower girls are gonna want different nutes then the week 6 girls in the same table if I set up a harvest every two weeks.

if I set up a harvest a month that means I need to make room for more veg time so the 1 gal or 3 gallon wins. I'll give it a shot for science's sake.
