Currently in my closet i have mixed system of CFL's and t-8 floros for a total of almost 500 watts. Temps are around 80 degrees.

Will a 400 hps be around the same temperature as the mixed cfl's and floro tubes? I have always heard that watts are watts when it comes to heat generation, and with a remotely ballasted hps maybe it might be a bit cooler?

Depends on how big the closet is and how and if your venting it...mine is about 4 by 4, im currently not venting it but theres just a blanket hanging over the do that blows back and forth so theres plenty of cool air and hot air in and out and it stays around 75.oh and i have a 15 inch oscilating fan that blows around the room it sits at the same height as my light and about a foot away so that prolly keeps it a bit cooler than it normaly would be.if you get it and its too hot htg supply has 80 cfm inline duct fans for 20 bucks, buy that and some flexible ducting(like 10 bucks) and suck the hot air out.(what im doin next week)p.s i have a digital ballast, if you get a magnetic ballast and its in your space itll be a bit hotter.

Yeah I am going to go ahead and try it out. I will buy the venting and fans if needed I guess. Was trying to save a little money, and I plan on placing the ballast outside the grow closet.

I have a 2.5x3.5x5 space that I went with this light http://htgsupply.com/viewproduct.asp?productID=51907 because just my 450w of cfls get my tent up to 86f.
Yeah I really like those T-5's, I might get some for my veg room soon.

Get a son agro 430 watt hps, and an oscillating fan and make it work...anything smaller, and you'll wish you would of grabbed this bulb from the beginning. I have used one in a closet with unbelievable results, and heat was no big issue.

I bought two of them to put in the tent with one pack of the 3000k bulbs so I can run one of each temperature in each fixture. I'm getting decent results with cfls so this has no choice but to be a step up with the added intensity.

I found a decent deal on a 400w hps on ebay that came with a digital ballast, cheesy reflector, yo-yo hangers, and a timer. It ends up being about the same price as HTG's 400w hps.
