So i got slugs :(

freaking got slugs freaking devouriing my beautiful babiess ( im thinking im just gonna get some of that diatomaceous earth stuff and sprinkle it around the base of the plants...

DE works well otherwise put out bowls of beer, the slugs are attracted to the scent and then they drown when they crawl into the bowl

Hot pepper wax should work as well

Slugs are like only a problem when you are level 1, lol. take a bare piece of copper wire, 10gauge, about 8-10 inches long wind it loosley around the base of your plant in a spiral manner around the stem about 3 or 4 inches high. Slugs will not climb over it. It seems to shock them or something, they hate it. Make sure to loosen the wire as the plant grows.
If this is ineffective in potted plants? you will have to ground the soil in the pots ( just a thought).
deadline is 90% effective but it is toxic, use it outside of the rootzone in a cleared trench if you must.

The copper wire sounds stupid but it works wonders.

I have seen slugs do amazing things to get a plants, you may think they are mindless, but they are in the same family as octopi.
I have seen them climb nearby plants and vault over the deadline and the copper to get to a plant.
I have seen a mob of slugs topple a plant and glue it to the ground with slime so they hide under it and feed at mid day.

While under the effects of copious amounts of liberty cap mushrooms I considered closely the slug at my feet. He is slow, he has four eyes.
He crawls along lazily observing everything. He takes his time and considers closely the route of his journey. The slug is a wise being.
He considers closely all that he sees. He feeds upon many things that alter conscious reality. If you ever have the opportunity try having a conversation with him he knows many things......

Rangor has it right, use the copper wire and your worries are over, no replacing DE or beer. Works first time everytime and you can reuse the copper over and over again.

If u wanna do shit the ghetto as way get some eggshells crush them up and put them around the base of ur plant kinda like a donut of eggshells around the base. This will stop the slugs from eating ur plant since they cant get over the eggshells cos it just cuts them up and shit.

I would have to disagree with that statement that your worries are over.
Does it help? Most likely.
Will it elimate your slug problem 100% for sure? NO.

I've dealt with slugs for years in an area where I grow.
Lost many a pounds over the years and just in one season to the fuckers.
Seem them devour plants as big as 3-4 feet in just one day.

I've tried the copper wire thing a few years ago.It probably helped,but I didn't have a serious problem with slugs at that area.It was more of a precaution.

This year,i decided to spend a few hours making a box around the base of all my plants with 1 inch copper pipe. The boxes were about 4 inches squared. I figured this was much better than the copper wire and my slug problems were over.
Was I ever wrong.
After some rainy nights,I was picking up to 20 slugs off of 1 plant.
Also spent about 100$ on slug bait.
Lost 5 plants and probably about 3 lbs to the fuckers.

Then I used salt arount the holes which works the best ,but a heavy rain came one night and washed the salt into the holes.It killed one of my Northern Lights that would have yielded close to a lb.It stunted about 8 others.
So in conclusion, fuking slugs caused me to lose 5-6 lbs this season alone and the copper didn't save me.I wish it would have.

first off if your growing ina area with alot of slugs you have to worry about mold also. and the first things you need to do. is clear off all the dead logs and branchs and leaves in your area. dry out the soil. get rid of the hiding places. your not going to get it all just around your plants buy slug bait. i had a prob. i used one bag. it killed them for awhile. then i got more. so your going to want to put it out around mid june then again in end of july. and dont put it out thick around your plants. put it every where but at your plants. its bait. they like it. if you put it at your plants theyll come to that area. put it all around and spread it out. throw it as far as you can. i have no slugs in my area i killed them all i havnt put bait out in yrs. cause i did it right the first time. copper dont work. salts washs away. and kills your plants and atracts deer. it dont take alot of bait to kill all the slugs in the area. you just gotta put it out correctly.

Yeah you're right.I am growing in an area with a high amount of slugs.

I know you're trying to help,but trust me,tried everything.I've been growing for years.
I never put the slug bait right at the plant.Lol
I used a garden rake to rake and dry an area around the plant a good 8 feet in diameter.
Also tried crushed egg shells around the plants a few years ago.Not worth a fuck

But I did figure out the best defense against slugs(excluding salt which is dangerous to your crop) this year.I built boxes with open bottoms to go over some of my 25 gallon holes.Painted them green and mixed beach sand with the paint.The elevation of the boxes doesn't stop every slug,but the difference is fukin unbeilivable.Next year,every hole will have 2 by 2 foot boxes about 18 inches high.

Oh,and back to my original response.Copper wire or even pipe for that matter won't stop those bastards.

yeah i rake at least 8 feet. but what i mean is you gotta find all the dead logs branchs in a 50foot area out side of that. thats where they live in the hot sun. if you keep them out side of a safe range where theyu cant get back to theyll cook up. you dont find find slugs in a open field they need moisture alot of it. also i dont think 8 foot is enough. but 10 is. i think you need to go just alittle more.

Like I said,I'd say there isn't anything I havent tried.Yes I put Slug bait under logs and even brought 1 foot boards to use with bait underneath.

Elevated Boxes are the best results I've had.
