Slime on the roots of one plant.

I just had to trim some of the roots because they were tangled around the pump and the air stone. I rinsed the roots off with the slime and changed the solution. So now I am waiting to see how much of a shock I put them in. I have been told by an old school grower that it is ok to trim the roots. I only took off about 25% of the roots and like I said I cleaned off the slime with fresh water. And then changed the solution. Anyone ever here of that slime??
