Side lighting and stretching issues with 12/12?

Hi, I've been veging my plants under 6500k lights for 13 days now, topped 4 days ago and there is healthy new shoots coming out from the topped areas so I'm ready to do the 12/12 switch to using 2700k lights. The thing I'm wondering is whether having your plants lit primarily by side lighting will promote stretching? My plan was to surround the plants' sides with bulbs, with nothing above but mylar. I was hoping this would encourage bushiness but I've heard plants tend to stretch when there is no light directly above them... can anybody confirm/deny? Thanks a lot.

I second the lst or scrog method. Keep that canopy level and lit well. By doing either method you are opening the plant to more light rather than trying to get the light to the Plant.
