there is alot to consider when answering your questions.

in my opinion, trimming off lower nodes helps in alot of ways. but like i said it depends on your setup. i never tried LST but i would suppose you shouldnt/wouldnt have to cut any nodes off if done properly. but i trim, or "lolllipop", if you will. as far as defoliating, for whatever reason, in my opinion it isnt necessary.

Your question has many correct answers as it is totally subjective.

HOWEVER, keep in mind that any healthy part of your plant that is still GREEN is stored food for your plant (If the branch/leaf is curled, hard, dry and yellow then remove it). There isnt much sense in removing food your plant has processed and stored for later use. Best to not remove any healthy branches/leaves. There are times when you will remove healthy parts of the plant, for example when topping or FIM'ing a plant.
