Should this fan & filter work together ? {smell issue}

Hi all. Hope someone can help me out here.

This is my first grow and im at the height of flowering. I have one plant that will be getting chopped this weekend and have a sativa thats gonna be in a for a another few weeks.

Im growing in a dr60. I have a hvk 100a fan attached to a CAN 1500 filter {4inch}.

I grow in my cupboard and vent through the wall into my bedroom, the problem is there is a smell building up in my bedroom. My first thoughts were a leak somewhere in the ducting between the fan & filter. So i got some aluminum tape and taped all round my connections and made sure it was pretty airtight. Still have a smell.

I then made sure i was getting negative pressure when i zip up my tent, the sides suck in quite a bit. I only have one of the port holes open for intake of fresh air, all the other flaps etc are sealed up. Still a smell, and also a rise in temps.

I must add that the smell isnt in my cupboard where the tent is, its definetly coming out of my extraction hole and lingering about in my bedroom. My grow cupboard is smell free.

So now im thinking and from what ive read theres a chance my fan is too powerfull for the dr60/filter ? Could it be sucking the air up too fast through my filter and not getting enough, if any contact time with the carbon ?

The specs of my filter say ''Suitable for airflow volumes up to 75 m3/h.''
And the specs of my fan say '' 175 m3 per hour''.

Now i believe my fan rating should be lower than my filter yeah ?

Does that mean i should get my fan to run about 60 to 75 m3 hour ?
Am i getting cfm mixed up with m3 p/h ?

Do i need to get a fan speed controller to turn my fan down a good bit so its not pulling the air through so fast ? But by doin this, will me temps not rise a good bit, because atm they are already higher than i would like, at about 82 ish atm with a 250w son t hps.

I was really enjoying my first grow up until now. im goin round in circles and spending money at the same time to try deal with this smell. At the moment im covering up this smell not eliminating it.
To be quite honest im quite pissed off that iv spent all this cash on decent equipment and didnt cut any corners, and im still gettin problems.

Anyone like to hazard a guess as to what exactly my problem is and how i should try to fix it ?
Apologies if iv left out some vital info, il be more than happy to supply any more info/sketches etc of my grow.

Thanks for reading.

I would get a speed controller. That way you can turn the fan down a bit and see how that does. They are 20 bucks at HTG supply. I just bought one for my 450cfm 6in fan.

get some ona gel and put it after your filter that way it wont kill the smell of your buds and it should kill the smell outside your box

Hi guys. Think im just gonna go for a bigger filter and forget the speed controller. Im in uk and cant seem to find a cheap one. Im hoping a bigger capacity filter will solve my problem too.

tried that mate. It works a little. I tried it with the ona gel pro and the constant blow just disintegrates the stuff after a while. Costs £15 a bottle so not very cost effective. Tumble dryer sheets over the vent actually work really well.

Made another post to find out if my idea of a better filter would be better than a speed controller etc...... no replies so far.

But thanks for the input guys.
