Should my plants be this big?

Iv got 8 plants and their only 13 days old.

They seem to be like 5.5 inches big with 4 leafs. the leafs are not that big either some are now sprouting new leafs.

Am looking at other peoples photos and their plants look about 2 inches big and have very big broad leafs (the pics are of 10 days old plants)

any ideas why mine are so big?

That's a normal good healthy size. You must be taking good care of them. Are they indoor or outdoor?

Either you're doing a good job or they're streched, how close are your lights and what are you using for lights? If it's cfls keep 'em 2" away from the top

Extra tall plants usually indicates that they are stretching towards the light. CFLs should be almost touching.

Then they're prolly streched if you're using a 200 watt indecident bulb, they're useless for growing

awww shit think i mite need to lower the lights a bit, can stretching make them flimbsy/unable to support themselfs very well because some are a bit dodgey while others are looking realy strong.

I actually thought they may be streching but i did not want the bulbs burning them.

yer i didnt find that out until yday, who thought energy saveing light bulbs would be better (even though they useless energy)

am gunna swap the 200w indenciant bulb when i get back.

I actually used 2 200w indenciant bulbs until one blew 2 days ago then i swapped it for a CFL.

Edit: sorry iv just noticed i dubble posted ooops.... SORRY! ha

dude it sounds like they are streching.you need to use the right lighting. look for lights with a 6500k rating and keep them close to the plants. you can build up the soil or what ever medium you use around the stem right up to the first set of leavs this wil keep them standing.

I wouldn't throw in the towel just yet. They reach a point of growth that is just crazy, here are the same plants, four days previous, at eleven days.

My first grow, my seedlings in no way, did as well as they do now. You'll do better, with practice.:peace:

Ok... I didn't readd all the posts, I stopped when i saw the 75w-14 cfl. So, you are using 14 watts cfl for one plant. The 75w is the incandescent equivalent from the 14 watt cfl. In reality, YOU ARE USING ONLY 14 WATTS. I'm not being a dick but i wanted you to know. You need at least 75 watts cfl per plant (thats 75 watts CFL not incandescent equivalant) and get that incandescent light out of there, its not doing anything exepct work as a mini space heater. If you get 3 25 watt minio cfl's and put them a few places around the plant (no more than two inches away) you'll get biiger, broader leaves and there will be less space between nodes. hope this helps

Do you think the CFLs you use are better than 4x24 inch T5s?

Is that question for me? I don't use CFL for anything except for starting seeds and clones. I grow like a big boy with 800 watts MH for Veg and 800 watts HPS for flower ; ) Check out the link in my signature to see my current Mini SOG grow from clone.
